This year, the HSLC exams were conducted from February 15 to March 3, 2025, with practical examinations held on January 21 and 22. The announcement of results was initially expected on April 10, but was delayed, as confirmed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 9.
According to the latest statistics, a total of 4,22,737 candidates appeared for the HSLC examinations, with 2,70,471 students successfully passing. This results in an overall pass percentage of 63.98%, a significant drop from last year's 75.7%. The number of candidates achieving first division is notable, with 89,041 students qualifying, while 5,336 secured distinction, and 16,517 received star marks.
Amishi Saikia from Pragya Academy Senior Secondary School in Jorhat topped the exam with an impressive score of 591 marks, translating to 98.50%. Following her are Saptarswa Bordoloi from Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, who scored 590 marks, and Anirban Bargohai, also from Pragya Academy, with 589 marks.
District performance varied widely, with Sivasagar emerging as the top-performing district, boasting a pass percentage of 85.55%. Gender-wise analysis reveals that boys outperformed girls this year, with a pass percentage of 67.59% compared to girls' 61.09%. This disparity highlights ongoing discussions about gender performance in education within the state.
In terms of category-wise results, the pass percentages are as follows: General (62.45%), OBC (69.64%), MOBC (70.78%), SC (58.56%), ST (P) (71.32%), ST (H) (65.86%), and Tea Tribe (51.89%).
Students who appeared for the HSLC exams are encouraged to collect their original mark sheets from their respective schools once they are made available. The provisional marksheet released online serves as a reference until the official documents are distributed.
In the past, the HSLC results have shown fluctuating trends, with the overall pass percentage dropping from 75.7% in 2024 to 63.98% in 2025. This shift raises questions about educational standards and the challenges faced by students in the current academic environment.
Overall, the release of the HSLC results marks a significant milestone for students and their families, as they prepare for the next steps in their educational journeys. As the state continues to navigate the challenges of education, it remains crucial for stakeholders to address the disparities in performance and ensure that all students have the support they need to succeed.
