The Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) announced the results for the Class 10 HSLC examinations on April 11, 2025, revealing a significant drop in the overall pass percentage compared to previous years. This year, only 63.98% of students successfully passed the exam, a decrease from the 75.7% recorded in 2024.
Students can check their results online at the official websites: asseb.in, sebaonline.org, and resultsassam.nic.in. The results were officially declared at 10:30 AM, providing relief to over 4 lakh students who participated in the examinations held from February 15 to March 3, 2025.
Among the candidates, a total of 2,70,471 students passed, while 4,22,737 registered for the exam, with approximately 6,712 students absent. The results of 22 candidates were withheld, and 101 students were expelled during the examination process.
Amishi Saikia from Pragya Academy Senior Secondary School in Jorhat topped the exam with an impressive score of 591 marks, translating to 98.50%. She was followed closely by Saptarswa Bordoloi from Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, Noonmati, Kamrup (M), who scored 590 marks (98.33%), and Anirban Borgohain, also from Pragya Academy, with 589 marks (98.17%).
The results highlighted a gender disparity in performance, with boys achieving a pass percentage of 67.59%, while girls recorded 61.09%. This year’s results also showed a marked difference in the performance across various districts, with Sivasagar emerging as the best performing district at 85.55% pass rate, followed by Dibrugarh at 81.10% and Dhemaji at 80.64%. In contrast, Sribhumi was the lowest performing district with only 47.96% of students passing.
Regarding category-wise results, the General category recorded a pass percentage of 62.45%, while OBC candidates had a success rate of 69.64%. The SC category saw only 58.56% pass, while ST (P) candidates achieved 71.32%, and ST (H) candidates had a 65.86% pass rate. The Tea Tribe category had the lowest performance at 51.89%, and the MOBC category fared better with a 70.78% pass rate.
In terms of distinctions, 5,336 candidates achieved a distinction, while 16,517 received star marks, and 168,312 candidates secured letter marks. The distribution of divisions among the successful candidates revealed that 89,041 students secured first division, 135,568 achieved second division, and 45,862 passed with third division.
Students looking to improve their scores can apply for re-checking, with a fee of ₹400 per subject. The board has made it clear that re-checking will involve re-totalling marks and assessing any unmarked answers, but it will not constitute a re-evaluation of the scripts.
As the results were released, Ranoj Pegu, the Cabinet Minister for Higher Education, Tribal Affairs, Government of Assam, confirmed the announcement via social media, urging students to check their results promptly. The SEBA board has also assured that the results were prepared with utmost accuracy and transparency.
Students are encouraged to collect their original mark sheets from their respective schools, as the online results will serve as provisional until the official documents are issued. The board has not provided hard copies of mark sheets to students who did not pass.
With the results now available, students can begin planning their future educational paths, whether it be continuing in Science, Arts, or Commerce streams in higher secondary education. The board has congratulated all successful candidates and encouraged those who may wish to improve their scores to stay motivated and seek available opportunities.
This year’s examination period was marked by the practical exams conducted on January 21 and 22, followed by the written examinations from mid-February to early March. The board aims to continue supporting students through their educational journeys, ensuring that they have access to necessary resources and information.
