Assam Chief Minister Announces Gunotsav 2025 Results

Over 3.8 million students evaluated as schools celebrate educational achievements

On March 27, 2025, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the eagerly awaited results of Gunotsav 2025 at a ceremony held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. This event, which began at 11:30 a.m., marks a significant milestone in the Assam government's ongoing efforts to reform and enhance the quality of education in the state.

The Assam Gunotsav initiative, launched in 2017, aims to assess and improve the educational standards in elementary and secondary schools across Assam. This year, the results were made available online on the official website, gunotsav2025.in, where students and schools could check their performance and the grades awarded.

During the announcement, Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the achievements of 11,594 schools that secured an A+ grade in the 2024 assessment, showcasing the progress made over the years. The event also included the distribution of tablets to 4,320 students under the Arohan Scheme, aimed at promoting digital education.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu emphasized the extensive scale of this year's evaluation, which involved 17,585 external evaluators assessing the performance of 3,898,945 students across 44,077 schools. Pegu shared on her social media platform, X, that the Gunotsav initiative has been pivotal in providing quality education to every student in Assam.

"The Government of Assam has been conducting Gunotsav since 2017 with the aim of providing quality education to every student in the state. This year, 3,898,945 students in 44,077 schools have been assessed. The results of Gunotsav 2025 will be announced based on the evaluation conducted by a total of 17,585 external evaluators," Pegu stated.

Gunotsav serves as a comprehensive evaluation framework, assessing schools based on four key areas: scholastic performance (90% weightage), co-scholastic and other activities (5% weightage), and community participation and contributions (5% weightage). Notably, infrastructure availability and use are not included in the grading system.

The results of Gunotsav have shown a remarkable improvement in educational standards over the years. The percentage of schools achieving A+ grades has increased from 11.56% in 2017 to an impressive 35.76% in 2024. Conversely, the number of schools receiving D grades has dramatically decreased from 14.54% to just 0.8% during the same period.

To check their results, students and schools can follow these steps: visit the official website, click on the 'Gunotsav Result 2025' link, enter the required login credentials, and view the result displayed on the screen. They can also download and print the scorecard for future reference.

As part of the recognition for outstanding performance, the Assam government has announced that schools achieving A+ grades will receive a cash prize of ₹25,000 each. This financial incentive is intended to encourage schools to maintain high educational standards and foster a competitive spirit.

In addition to the results announcement, the event also celebrated the achievements of Samagra Shiksha, Assam, which received an ISO 9001:2015 certification for its commitment to quality education. This certification acknowledges the systematic approach taken by the organization to enhance educational outcomes.

However, not all districts performed equally well. Chief Minister Sarma expressed concern over the performances of West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong, and Chirang districts, which lagged behind in this year's assessment. He urged teachers and education officials in these areas to investigate the reasons for their underperformance and develop strategies for improvement.

In contrast, the top-performing districts in the Gunotsav evaluation were Shivsagar, Golaghat, and Dibrugarh. Shivsagar district has notably secured the top rank for the third consecutive year, a testament to its consistent commitment to educational excellence. In terms of cleanliness, Golaghat topped the rankings, followed by Kamrup Metro and Jorhat districts.

Moreover, the evaluation also recognized the effectiveness of mid-day meal programs and uniform standards across schools. Shivsagar, Majuli, and Saraideo districts achieved the top three positions for maintaining high standards in these areas, with 92% of schools reported to have met uniform standards.

Gunotsav 2025 has thus not only served as a tool for assessing educational performance but has also highlighted the importance of community involvement and infrastructure in achieving educational success. The initiative has strengthened the partnership between schools and local communities, fostering an environment conducive to learning.

As Assam continues to prioritize educational reforms, the results of Gunotsav 2025 reflect a positive trajectory towards achieving quality education for all students in the state. The Assam government remains committed to identifying learning gaps and providing remedial measures to ensure that every child receives the education they deserve.
