Asakusa Hanayashiki Hosts Free Rice Growing Kit Distribution

Children can learn about agriculture with free rice growing kits at the historic amusement park in April.

Asakusa Hanayashiki, operated by Hanayashiki Co., Ltd., is set to host a unique collaboration with the National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Associations (JA Group) aimed at educating children about agriculture through hands-on experience. The event will feature the distribution of the 'Bucket Rice Growing Set' on April 28 and 29, 2025, at the amusement park's entrance.

The 'Bucket Rice Growing Set' initiative has been a staple of the JA Group since 1989, designed to engage the next generation in agricultural practices. This year, the campaign will take place over two days, during which the first 1,000 children (elementary school students and younger) each day will receive a free set. The distribution will occur from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM, or until supplies run out, at the Asakusa Gate entrance.

In addition to the rice-growing kits, visitors will be greeted by Emi-chan, the beloved mascot of the 'Everyone's Good Food Project,' at scheduled times throughout the day. Emi-chan will make appearances at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 2:00 PM, providing a fun and interactive element to the event.

The 'Bucket Rice Growing Set' includes essential items to facilitate the rice cultivation experience: a seed rice and fertilizer set, a comprehensive manual, and a name sticker. The manual is designed to be user-friendly, featuring photos and illustrations that guide children through the planting and harvesting process. However, it's important to note that soil and buckets are not included in the kit.

The overarching goal of this campaign is to foster a deeper appreciation for agriculture among children who may not have previously had the opportunity to engage with farming practices. By providing a hands-on experience, the JA Group hopes to inspire young participants to enjoy rice cultivation and, ultimately, increase their consumption of rice.

Asakusa Hanayashiki, recognized as Japan's oldest amusement park, has been a cherished destination since its establishment in 1853. The park features a variety of attractions, including the oldest existing roller coaster in Japan, and has been a popular spot for families and tourists alike.

During the event, children will not only learn about the agricultural process but also have the chance to enjoy the park's various rides and activities. This initiative aligns with the JA Group's mission, which emphasizes the importance of understanding food sources and the value of local agriculture.

In a statement, the JA Group expressed their enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "Through this partnership with Asakusa Hanayashiki, we aim to introduce the joy of farming to children who have had little exposure to agriculture. We hope this experience encourages them to appreciate the hard work that goes into food production and inspires them to eat more rice in the future."

The event promises to be an engaging and educational experience, blending fun and learning in a way that resonates with young visitors. Families are encouraged to attend and enjoy the festivities while taking part in this unique agricultural initiative.

As the event approaches, organizers are prepared for the possibility of changes due to weather conditions, and they advise attendees to check for updates on the official Asakusa Hanayashiki website.

In summary, the 'Let's Get a Bucket Rice Growing Set at Asakusa Hanayashiki!' campaign is an exciting opportunity for children to connect with agriculture in a playful environment. With free kits, friendly mascots, and a historic amusement park backdrop, this event is set to be a memorable experience for families in Tokyo.
