Ary Fontoura Mourns His Sister Estela's Death At 100

The 91-year-old actor expresses deep sadness over his sister's passing, receiving widespread support from friends and colleagues.

Actor Ary Fontoura mourns the passing of his older sister, Estela Beira Fontoura da Costa, who died at the age of 100 on Saturday, January 4, at her home in Curitiba, Paraná. Ary, 91, took to social media to express his deep sorrow, stating, "This is one of the saddest days of my life. I understand all of God’s plans. It hurts so much to know you will no longer be here and it will be impossible to hear your voice. I will have to settle for the light you left in our lives."

Estela, who was retired from her career as a schoolteacher, has been remembered by her family and friends for her impact on their lives. Ary reflected on her qualities with heartfelt words, noting, "Your little way will never be forgotten, along with all your advice, kindness, and the way you spoke. My love is eternal. Now you’ve joined our brothers. If anyone asks how you were, I will simply say you were incredible and illuminated. After all, death is the only certainty we have in this life."

He continued by expressing the lasting influence Estela had on him, declaring, "Even from afar, I learned from youthat love is eternal and, even in absence, you will always be by my side. Rest in peace, my sister. I love you forever!" The post reflected not only Ary's grief but also the affection he harbored for his sister.

Many of Ary’s friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry posted messages of support on social media, including well-known figures like Ana Maria Braga, Beth Goulart, and Tatá Werneck, expressing their sympathies. Elizabeth Savalla, one of his closest friends, commented, "My dear, I am so sorry. I know of your love for your sister! If you need anything, know you can always count on me and my family. We are with you at this time of sorrow, my dear heart, praying for her and for you."

Just months ago, Ary celebrated Estela's milestone 100th birthday with her, sharing joyous moments together on social media. He posted on September 4, 2024, "A day full of love, joy, and unforgettable memories on my centenarian sister's birthday! We managed to celebrate now. It was so worth it!" His poignant memories highlight both the joy Estela brought to his life and the deep loss he feels after her departure.

Earlier, Ary also faced the death of his younger brother, Ivan Fontoura, who passed away at the age of 96, making this period particularly painful for the actor as he navigates the loss of two beloved siblings. Ary had expressed his grief over Ivan’s death, stating, "I will miss our phone calls and conversations. You left behind a legacy of love and inspiration and a beautiful family. You will always be remembered and loved." The present loss of Estela has deepened the actor's sorrow.

Looking forward to future projects, Ary Fontoura is preparing to return to television with the upcoming Globo soap opera, Êta Mundo Bom!, set to debut this June, following the success of his recent film, Velhos Bandidos, co-starring legendary actress Fernanda Montenegro. Despite his professional commitments, the emotional weight of his sister's passing is evident as he takes time to reflect on their impactful relationship.

This tragic event not only sheds light on the personal loss experienced by Ary Fontoura but also highlights the strong bonds within families and the importance of love and remembrance. The condolences and solidarity from his peers serve as a comforting reminder of the supportive community he has, even as he faces the difficult times of grief.
