Arena MRV Transforms With New Fan Experience Enhancements

Major renovations include chair removal and sustainable energy initiatives at Atlético Mineiro's stadium

The excitement at Arena MRV is palpable as major renovations are underway to enhance the fan experience and improve the stadium's sustainability. In the latest episode of the series "ARENA MRV DE CARA NOVA," released on March 28, 2025, the focus shifted to the Inter Sul level, where a significant transformation is taking place. This upper section of the stadium is being redesigned to create a new sector without chairs, aimed at accommodating the passionate organized fan groups of Atlético Mineiro.

In a bold move, seven thousand chairs have been removed from the Inter Sul sector. David Virgínio, the leader of the renovation project, explained, "It’s a very simple procedure. We are transferring the chairs using a cargo elevator. About 7,000 chairs have been removed from Inter Sul, and many of them will be installed in Brahma Sul, which has a smaller capacity. Other chairs will be stored, and some will be converted into armchairs to meet project needs." This not only optimizes seating arrangements but also paves the way for a more vibrant atmosphere during matches.

As part of the renovation, ACM plates are being installed on the roof of Arena MRV. These plates are designed to improve sound reverberation, ensuring that the cheers and chants of the fans resonate throughout the stadium, amplifying the home advantage for Atlético Mineiro. The installation of these plates is a crucial step in enhancing the overall acoustic experience for fans.

Moreover, the aesthetic appeal of the arena is set to receive a significant boost. Renowned tattoo artist Thiago Scap is working on a large art piece featuring the phrase "Aqui é Galo" (Here is Galo) alongside the club's shields. This artistic addition was chosen through a public vote on the Super App and is expected to be completed before the return of official games to the arena. Scap shared, "It’s a design that will be visible from aerial views on event days. The most complicated part is marking the design on a dual surface, which is the step and the floor. We expect to spend about three days just on assembly and marking, and then seven to 12 days for painting, which will require two coats. The total time for completion is estimated at 10 to 15 days. We must deliver it for the first game back at Arena MRV."

Arena MRV, inaugurated in April 2023, has quickly established itself as one of the most modern stadiums in Latin America, boasting a capacity of approximately 46,000 fans. The stadium not only hosts Atlético Mineiro's football matches but is also equipped to accommodate various events, including concerts. The construction of the arena began in 2020, following years of meticulous planning and was funded through private partnerships, naming rights, and club initiatives.

In addition to the renovations, Arena MRV has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability. On the same day as the latest episode release, the stadium received a renewable energy certificate from Cemig (Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais) for the second consecutive year. In 2024, all energy consumed at the stadium, amounting to 3,447,715 kWh, came from clean sources, successfully avoiding the emission of approximately 190 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. This achievement is part of a broader set of environmental initiatives that the stadium has implemented since its opening.

Operating in the Free Energy Market, Arena MRV sources its electricity from renewable energy providers, further solidifying its status as a leader in sustainable sports facilities. Alongside its energy practices, the stadium also promotes responsible water usage, waste management, and the preservation of green areas, aligning its operations with environmental sustainability goals.

As the renovations progress, fans eagerly anticipate the enhancements that will take place at Arena MRV. The combination of improved acoustics, a vibrant new design, and a commitment to sustainability positions the arena as a pioneer in modern sports venues. With the first official game back on the horizon, the excitement among the Atlético Mineiro supporters continues to build, promising an unforgettable atmosphere at their beloved home ground.
