April Begins With Sunshine And Strong Winds Across France

Most of France enjoys sunny weather, but warnings for strong winds and flooding are in effect in several departments.

As April begins, the weather across France is set to showcase a mix of sunshine and varying wind conditions, particularly in the northern regions. On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, most of the country will bask in bright sunlight, with the exception of the Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-Maritimes, where clouds will linger.

Météo France has placed five departments under yellow alert due to anticipated strong winds. Specifically, the Ain and Haute-Savoie regions face risks from gusts that could exceed 105 km/h, while vigilance for flooding is advised in Finistère, Gironde, and Somme.

In the Hauts-de-France region, anticyclonic conditions dominate the weather scene. The east wind, which is expected to pick up strength throughout the day, will make temperatures feel cooler than they are. Early morning temperatures will be quite brisk, recording 3 degrees in Compiègne and Rethondes, and 4 degrees in Dunkerque and Malo les Bains. By the afternoon, temperatures will rise to a pleasant 15 degrees in Abbeville and Quesnoy-le-Montant, and 16 degrees in Valenciennes and Beuvrages. However, the wind will continue to be a factor, with gusts potentially reaching around 50 km/h.

Meanwhile, in Brest, the day starts with cloudy skies but warm temperatures. The morning wind will blow at 30 km/h, gradually increasing to about 55 km/h, with gusts that might surpass 105 km/h. The temperature will start at 6 °C at 8 am and rise to 13 °C by late morning. In the afternoon, the clouds are expected to clear up, allowing for a high of 16 °C before the evening cools down to 10 °C.

In La Rochelle, the forecast is bright and sunny, with temperatures ranging from a low of 8 °C to a high of 15 °C. Winds will be milder here, reaching up to 36 km/h. The morning temperature will hover around 10 °C, and by the afternoon, it will climb to between 13 °C and 15 °C. As night falls, temperatures will settle between 11 °C and 12 °C, with clear skies expected.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, April 2, the weather is expected to remain stable under high-pressure conditions. The northern half of France can anticipate sunshine in the morning, with temperatures ranging from 5 °C to 16 °C. Specifically, Amiens will see temperatures around 7 °C, while Calvi may reach a maximum of 17 °C. The afternoon will bring continued warm weather, with highs of 22 °C in Albertville.

As the week progresses, temperatures are predicted to rise, peaking at around 20 °C on Friday, April 4, and possibly reaching 21 °C on Saturday, April 5. However, forecasters warn of a significant drop in temperatures expected from Sunday, April 6.

Air quality on April 1 is projected to be compromised along the coast due to PM2.5 particles, while the rest of the Hauts-de-France region will maintain average air quality, primarily affected by ozone and accompanied by PM10 and PM2.5 particles.

In summary, the weather on this first day of April is a blend of sunshine, brisk winds, and varying temperatures across France. Residents are advised to stay alert for weather warnings, particularly in areas under yellow alert, as they enjoy the onset of spring.
