Apple Launches New MacBook Air With M4 Chip

The latest MacBook Air offers enhanced performance and cuts prices, appealing to students and professionals alike.

Apple has once again made headlines by announcing the latest iteration of its popular MacBook Air equipped with the powerful M4 chip. On March 5, 2025, the technology giant unveiled updates to its beloved laptop, which now boasts improved performance, enhanced video capabilities, and even lower prices.

The new MacBook Air is available in two sizes: the 13-inch model starts at $999, and the larger 15-inch version begins at $1,199, reflecting a $100 decrease from previous pricing. Customers interested in the new models can pre-order them starting today, with shipments set to commence on March 12, 2025.

Featuring the cutting-edge M4 chip, the MacBook Air promises remarkable performance, with Apple asserting it delivers speeds up to twice as fast as the previous M1 model. The M4 chip integrates a 10-core CPU and either 8 or 10 GPU cores, depending on the configuration. It enables multi-tasking capabilities unprecedented for its series, allowing users to connect up to two 6K external displays simultaneously.

"MacBook Air is by far the world’s most popular laptop, and today we’re giving everyone even more reasons to love it," said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. He highlighted the notable upgrades, including the new M4 chip, the 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, and the all-new sky-blue color option.

Alongside performance improvements, the new MacBook Air also features upgraded battery life, granting users up to 18 hours of usage on a single charge. This enhancement is particularly beneficial for students and professionals on the go.

Creating impressive video calls is easier than ever with the addition of the 12MP Center Stage camera. This updated camera enhances image quality and automatically keeps users centered during video calls—an attractive feature for work or virtual catch-ups with friends and family.

The MacBook Air’s new sky-blue color adds to its aesthetic appeal, joining the existing options of Midnight, Starlight, and Silver. Apple continues to prioritize design alongside functionality, offering consumers aesthetically pleasing choices.

“Combined with its thin and light, fanless design, all-day battery life, and the incredible capabilities of macOS Sequoia with Apple Intelligence, MacBook Air is unlike any other laptop," Joswiak added, emphasizing the balance between performance and portability.

According to reports, the new MacBook Air marks the end of Apple's recent series of updates, which included the introduction of the M3 chip-based iPad Air and the new Mac Studio. Apple also recently launched the iPhone 16e, showcasing its continued commitment to innovation across its product lines.

The revamped Mac Studio had also been announced, targeting professionals with significant demands for processing power. Apple revealed the Studio is equipped with either the new M4 Max chip or the M3 Ultra chip, starting at $1,999—bringing extraordinary performance to creative users.

Despite the introduction of powerful processors, Apple refrained from intertwining flashy updates indicating radical design changes. The MacBook Air retains its lightweight design and familiar dimensions. The performance improvements, particularly the M4 chip, have become the focal point of this update.

Another notable update is the inclusion of macOS Sequoia, which enhances the user experience with Apple Intelligence. This new operating system introduces features like Smart Replies, Mail Summaries, and writing tools integrated with ChatGPT to assist users with everyday tasks.

Apple remains committed to environmental responsibility, asserting the new MacBook Air incorporates over 55 percent recycled material. The battery includes 100 percent recycled cobalt and over 95 percent recycled lithium—paving the way toward Apple's goal of carbon neutrality by 2030.

While Apple enthusiasts will undoubtedly appreciate the refreshing updates and refined aesthetics of the MacBook Air, they will likely be even more excited about the competitive pricing structure, which opens up access to advanced technology at more affordable size options.

With the official release on the horizon, consumers are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to experience the latest generation of the MacBook Air. Will the updates solidify the MacBook Air’s dominance in the market as Apple hopes? Only time will tell.
