Anton Kade Reflects On Success At FC Basel

The young talent discusses his journey from Hertha BSC to chasing U21 European glory.

Anton Kade, a former player for Hertha BSC, reflects on his move to FC Basel and the dividends it has paid. Now 21, Kade is not only a key player in the squad but also has seen his market value rise to an impressive 3.2 million Euros this season. Aside from the financial success, he is actively pursuing the goal of being part of Germany’s U21 team for the upcoming European Championship.

The journey of this young talent began when Kade made the bold decision to move to Basel at just 18 years old. "For me, the most important point was to play as many games as possible at a young age," Kade said in an interview with Transfermarkt. As of now, he is on the brink of making 100 appearances for the club, ensuring that his move was worth it.

Despite expressing a desire for a championship title—something the team has not achieved since 2017—Kade is optimistic about the current season and believes they have a "100 percent chance" of at least being title contenders.

"We have good players, and we've already shown that we can beat any team," he said, highlighting the confidence in the team. The Swiss league's unique structure—with its split into championship and relegation rounds—adds another layer of intensity and excitement, something that was new to Kade.

"It brings real tension because you know every game must be won. The matches in the championship round feel like finals," he commented. This unknown format at first served as both a learning curve and a thrill for him.

While Kade has adapted impressively to life in Switzerland, learning the local dialect remains a challenge. He humorously shared his struggles with Swiss German, admitting, "I understand everything, but speaking is hard. E bitzli cha ich's," reflecting his attempts to master the language.

The allure of Basel is not only its football scene but also the support Kade receives from his family. Leaving home was a daunting step, but the backing from his parents and girlfriend helped him adjust. "I became familiar with the city very quickly. It’s a place that one must truly get to know," he said.

His journey at Basel wasn't without challenges. Early in his career there, Kade faced two injuries that could have derailed his ambitions. However, he also noted the patience shown by the club during those tough times of recovery. "Despite being injured twice after my transfer, I felt very valued. It was not optimal for the club to have injured players, but they remained supportive," he stated.

Working hard and staying dedicated despite setbacks has allowed Kade to earn a regular starting position, a significant change from his early days at the club. Reflecting on his evolution as a player, he noted, "I have always worked hard and given my all in training. I noticed I improved with each session and match. Then, when the coach showed confidence in me, I was eager to repay it."

Kade, who primarily played as a forward on the left side during his youth, has since diversified his on-field roles. "I’ve played various positions, even right back at times! That has to be good for my development," he shared, further underlining the versatility he brings to the team.

As for future aspirations, Kade dreams of making an impact not just at FC Basel but also for the national U21 team. He admitted, "I’ve thought about the potential nomination for the U21 European Championship, and it is definitely a goal of mine." His excitement is evident, highlighting how this milestone could propel his career.

It's also worth noting Kade's relationship with his advisor, the legendary Michael Ballack. This association started when Ballack reached out through Kade's brother, setting the stage for an important mentorship in Kade's early career. "When a figure like Michael Ballack says he wants to guide you, you can only say yes! He brings valuable experience to every situation," Kade expressed gratefully.

The young footballer’s contract with Basel extends until 2026, which leaves room for future discussions about extensions or potential transfers. However, Kade remains focused. "Everyone around me might be more concerned about that than I am. I’m fully immersed in my time at Basel right now and will see what comes next," he said, indicating a balanced approach to his career.

In summary, Anton Kade's journey from Hertha BSC to FC Basel stands as a testament to his resilience, ambition, and the value of taking risks. With a promising future ahead, not only in the club circuit but also in international competitions, Kade is undoubtedly a player to watch as he continues to develop his career.
