Anne-Marie Stands By Slowthai During Court Appearance

Pop singer Anne-Marie supports her husband as he faces serious rape charges at Oxford Crown Court

British rapper Slowthai arrived at the Oxford Crown Court on November 25, 2024, supported by his wife, pop star Anne-Marie, as he began his trial for two counts of rape. The 29-year-old artist, whose real name is Tyron Kaymone Frampton, faces serious allegations stemming from an incident involving two women after his performance in Oxford on September 8, 2021.

Anne-Marie, who is also known for her chart-topping singles and as a former judge on The Voice, walked hand-in-hand with Slowthai, wearing her signature oversized black suit and fluffy hat, which matched her long electric pink hair. Frampton sported a moss green jumper and black trousers, seeming relatively upbeat as they entered the courthouse together.

The couple’s relationship has been private but was confirmed by Slowthai earlier this year, following their secret marriage in Las Vegas back in July 2022. They welcomed their daughter, named Seven, earlier this year.

The trial, which is expected to last around three weeks, was initially delayed from May to November 2024. Co-defendant Alex Blake-Walker is also on trial facing the same allegations alongside Frampton. Both men have pleaded not guilty, with Frampton maintaining his innocence and expressing confidence his name will be cleared.

During the pre-trial hearing, Judge Ian Pringle instructed the jury—composed of eight men and four women—not to discuss the case publicly or to research any media reports on the trial. He emphasized, "This case may attract some publicity. If it does, please bear in mind a reporter’s report is just their view of the case. What matters is what you make of the evidence presented here." The judge reiterated the importance of focusing solely on the evidence provided during the trial.

Frampton was previously charged with the oral and vaginal penetration of one of the women without consent, leading to widespread media coverage and significant scrutiny surrounding his career. Following the allegations, he faced cancellations, including getting cut from several major music festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading, and Leeds, and has refrained from releasing new music since the drop of his album, Ugly, in March 2023.

Despite the challenging circumstances, Anne-Marie's public show of support for her husband reflects their partnership through adversity. It remains to be seen how the trial will impact their family and careers.

Heather Stangoe is currently prosecuting the case, whereas Frampton’s defense is being led by Patrick Gibbs KC, with Sheryl Nwosu defending Blake-Walker. The case will continue as the prosecution opens its argument on November 26, 2024, marking the start of what will undoubtedly be closely watched proceedings.

The allegations have struck at the heart of Slowthai's burgeoning career, with fans divided over the charges. Amidst the circus surrounding the trial, many are left wondering how the outcome will shape the futures of both the rapper and his pop star wife.
