Aniket Verma has taken the IPL by storm with his explosive batting. In just 57 balls, he smashed 12 sixes and 5 fours, proving why he is IPL’s latest power-hitting sensation. But who is Aniket Verma? Hailing from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, Aniket plays domestic cricket for Madhya Pradesh. Before the IPL auction, he had played just one T20 match, making him a relatively unknown name. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) scouts spotted his raw talent, picking him up at his base price of ₹30 lakh. That gamble is now paying off in style! Aniket is not just a big hitter—he also brings all-round ability with his right-arm medium pace. In many ways, he is a like-for-like replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy in the SRH squad. His ability to easily clear boundaries has made him a nightmare for bowlers in the IPL. With such an explosive start, Aniket Verma is now one of the most exciting young players to watch out for. As IPL’s newest six-hitting machine, he is proving that one chance is all it takes to shine on the biggest stage!
Aniket Verma has created history in the Indian Premier League 2025 with his meteoric rise for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Aniket has hogged the limelight after his impressive knocks for SRH. He slammed 74 from 41 balls in SRH's clash against Delhi Capitals when his team's batting struggled yet again. The 23-year-old Aniket possesses a strong six-hitting capability, which is why SRH roped him in for his base price of Rs 30 lakh. The Madhya Pradesh batter has been repaying the faith of the team's think tank with his big hits. Aniket has achieved a significant record in the Indian cash-rich league. He has become the fastest uncapped player to hit his first 12 sixes in the IPL. The right-handed batter took only 56 balls to slam a dozen sixes, clearly ahead of the next-best Ashutosh Sharma, who hit a dozen maximums in 71 deliveries.
Fewest balls taken to hit 12 sixes in IPL:
- 1 - Aniket Verma: 56 balls
- 2 - Ashutosh Sharma: 71 balls
- 3 - Jofra Archer: 81 balls
- 4 - Ramandeep Singh: 94 balls
- 5 - Krishnappa Gowtham: 104 balls
Aniket is also a spin-basher, having hit 11 of his 12 sixes against them in IPL 2025. Before his 74-run knock against DC, Aniket hit a blistering 13-ball 36 against Lucknow Super Giants when his team didn't have a great outing with the bat. He made his debut against the Rajasthan Royals in SRH's season opener and hit a three-ball seven with one six. Aniket Verma's impressive performances in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League 2024 earned him a trial with SRH, during which he impressed the think tank. The youngster has played only one match in T20 cricket for MP before his IPL debut against the Rajasthan Royals in SRH's opening game in 2025.
As of Monday, March 31, 2025, Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants is on top of the six hitters list with 13 maximums. Aniket Verma is second with 12 sixes in three matches. Shreyas Iyer is in third spot with nine sixes. Mitchell Marsh and Sai Sudarshan are jointly fourth with eight sixes each. Aniket Verma scored 74 off just 41 deliveries with five fours and six sixes against Delhi Capitals at Visakhapatnam. The SRH top order was tottering at 25 for three with Mitchell Starc being on the money. It soon became 37 for four with Travis Head’s departure. Aniket Verma shored the innings with a 77-run partnership with Heinrich Klaasen and took charge to steer the franchise to a respectable, but below par total of 163.
Aniket Verma also made a quickfire 35 against Lucknow Super Giants. Aniket Verma lost his mother at an age of just three and was raised by his uncle Amit Verma. Aniket Verma honed his skills at the Railway Youth Cricket Club before refining his technique further at Ankur Academy with Jyotiprakash Tyagi. While training at Faith Cricket Club, the Hardik Pandya fan caught the attention of scouts through his consistent performances in domestic cricket. His breakout moment came in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League, where he finished as the leading runscorer with an impressive tally of 273 runs in six matches for the Bhopal Leopards.
He also slammed a blistering 101 off 75 deliveries at the U-23 level against Karnataka but in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he failed in the only game he played with a golden duck. Fortunately for Aniket, his performance in his state’s franchise league caught the eyes of the SRH scouts and opened up the doors for the team’s pre-season trials and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Tasked with high-pressure simulations, he smashed 72 runs in a six-over powerplay drill and followed it up with an unbeaten 64 in an eight-over chase, helping the SRH management to make up their minds and recruit him for Rs 30 lakhs.
Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar before the IPL started, Aniket said: "I want to meet Hardik Pandya. I will talk to him about fitness, bat flow and his hitting ability. Apart from him, I would like to learn on-the-rise flick shot from Kohli, pull from Rohit and flick shot from Pant. Also, I will talk to Dhoni about patience and common sense. I would like to ask Bumrah how he reads batsmen. He is an expert in this art." The curiosity from the youngster is laudable – and it shows his game sense too. It’s the likes of Aniket or Ashutosh Sharma of Delhi Capitals (whose innings of 66 in an improbable chase against LSG had been one of the best innings this year so far) makes the IPL worth the watch after all these years!
Aniket Verma once again impressed everyone with his explosive batting and brought up his maiden IPL fifty on Sunday at Visakhapatnam. Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins is not too worried after the orange army suffered back-to-back losses in IPL 2025 and instead chose to focus on the positives by praising young Aniket Verma for his heroics with the willow. "It's too early to worry about being two down, hopefully we'll get back going forward, as I said, we need to have a look at a few of our options. Maybe we just need to do one or two things differently and the results would change," Cummins said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Overall, guys have shown glimpses of what they can do, don't think we'll change too much. "We didn't get going, didn't get a score on the board. A few wrong shots, but catches in the deep does happen in this format of the game. I don't think it's a big margin, on another day, you get going with a couple of shots, not everything went our way in the last two games, we can look back and think about different options." Had it not been for Aniket Verma's fighting 74-run knock, SRH would have struggled to cross even 150. Praising the youngster, Cummins said, "Coming into the tournament, everyone was super impressed with him (Aniket) going into the lead-up to the tournament, which was fantastic and gave us half a chance, was impressive with the way he went about things (during the net sessions and practice games)."
