ROANOKE, Va. – A local animal rescue organization is stepping up to help pets at immediate risk of euthanization. Angels of Assisi is holding a pop-up adoption event this Saturday, December 28, from 12 to 4 p.m. at the SPCA Adoption Center, located at 415 Campbell Avenue.
The Regional Center for Animal Care & Protection (RCACP) has reported its shelter is at capacity. With some of its most vulnerable animals at risk, Angels of Assisi is taking action to prevent euthanizations and promote adoptions.
"All cats and kittens adoption fees will be free, all adult dogs will be $25, and all puppies are $200," stated Angels of Assisi, emphasizing the urgent need for community involvement. The RCACP has been facing mounting pressure as it struggles to accommodate the influx of animals, and with the Roanoke Valley SPCA undergoing construction, many animals from these organizations need homes now.
This collaboration aims to both alleviate the strain on RCACP and find loving families for animals desperately seeking homes. Many community members have already opened their homes, fostering animals during this tough time. With the stakes so high, this event is not just another adoption drive; it’s possibly the last chance for many of these animals.
The event serves as both a crisis response and community outreach, inviting pet lovers to adopt their new best friends. The lack of fees for cats and kittens is intended to encourage families to bring home these pets without financial barriers, especially considering the joy and companionship they can bring.
This weekend marks not just another adoption day, but hopefully the start of new beginnings for many four-legged friends. With reduced fees and the chance to form new connections, Angels of Assisi invites everyone to come by and meet the animals patiently waiting for their forever homes.
This emergency adoption initiative highlights the unwavering dedication of local shelters and rescue organizations to save lives, ensuring these animals have the chance they deserve. Supporters urge community members to spread the word and get involved, as together, they can make the difference between life and death for these beloved pets.
