Andreu Buenafuente Returns To RTVE With Futuro Imperfecto

The beloved comedian will host a new weekly comedy show starting this spring.

Andreu Buenafuente, a beloved figure in Spanish comedy, is set to return to national television with a new program titled Futuro Imperfecto, confirmed by RTVE President José Pablo López on April 1, 2025. This announcement marks a significant moment in Buenafuente's career, as he has been absent from the public broadcasting scene for over a decade.

The new show will be a weekly comedy program broadcast during prime time, produced in collaboration with El Terrat, Buenafuente's own production company. López revealed the details through a post on social media, expressing excitement about the upcoming lineup of RTVE's programming, which also includes La Familia de la Tele and Malas Lenguas.

Buenafuente, who has a long history in Spanish television, is known for his sharp wit and engaging style. His return to public television is seen as a strategic move by RTVE to boost its ratings, especially after losing its second-place position to Telecinco in March 2025. Telecinco achieved a 10.7% audience share, surpassing La 1, which fell four tenths behind.

The format of Futuro Imperfecto promises to be dynamic and lively, featuring a 60-minute monologue each week where Buenafuente will reflect humorously on current events. The show will also include appearances by other comedians, interviews, and musical performances, all recorded in front of a live audience of 700 people at a theater in Terrassa.

"No one understands this world, but we must try. Let's laugh about it and highlight the good things," Buenafuente stated, emphasizing the show's aim to blend humor with critical commentary on contemporary issues.

This new venture raises questions about Buenafuente's future with TV3, where he has been hosting Vosaltres mateixos. López indicated that Buenafuente will remain with RTVE until the summer of 2025, but the details of his schedule at TV3 remain uncertain. "Right now, everything indicates that Andreu Buenafuente will be on RTVE until the summer – and during these months, he won’t be on TV3. We already have a finalized schedule, and it would generate confusion for viewers. Once this stage is over, we're not closing any doors. Andreu is one of ours," López remarked.

The official confirmation of Buenafuente's signing ends months of speculation about his return to national television. His previous show, En el aire, aired on laSexta until its conclusion in 2016, after which he transitioned to Movistar Plus+ to host Late Motiv, which ended in December 2021.

As RTVE seeks to revitalize its programming lineup, Buenafuente’s return is anticipated to attract viewers back to the channel. The combination of humor, improvisation, and guest interactions is expected to create an engaging viewing experience that resonates with audiences.

In recent years, RTVE has been working to enhance its appeal, especially as competition from private networks intensifies. The addition of popular formats like La Revuelta by David Broncano and the upcoming Futuro Imperfecto reflects a strategic shift towards more entertaining and engaging content.

With the premiere of Futuro Imperfecto expected in early May 2025, viewers are eager to see how Buenafuente will navigate the current landscape of Spanish television. His unique blend of humor and insightful commentary is likely to resonate with a wide audience, making this a highly anticipated return.

As RTVE positions itself for a competitive year ahead, the introduction of Andreu Buenafuente’s show could play a crucial role in reclaiming its audience share. The network's commitment to quality programming and innovative formats may well set the stage for a successful season.

In conclusion, Buenafuente's comeback is not just a personal milestone for the comedian but also a significant development for RTVE, which aims to strengthen its presence in the national television landscape.
