Andreu Buenafuente Launches Futuro Imperfecto Comedy Show

The veteran comedian brings his unique humor to RTVE's new program featuring live audience interactions

Andreu Buenafuente and his team are set to premiere their new comedy show, Futuro Imperfecto, on May 8, 2025, on La 1 and RTVE Play. This weekly comedy program, produced by the public corporation in collaboration with El Terrat (The Mediapro Studio), aims to offer a fresh take on current events through Buenafuente's unique comedic lens.

Each episode of Futuro Imperfecto, lasting 60 minutes, will be recorded live at the LaFACT theater in Terrassa, featuring an audience of 700 people. This live audience is expected to contribute energy and laughter, transforming each recording into a unique experience. "Every television program is a challenge. I’m not discovering anything with that, but what I do notice is that in Futuro Imperfecto I have the opportunity to apply everything I’ve learned in these last 30 years," Buenafuente stated during a media presentation.

He explained that the decision to film in a theater was deliberate, aiming to harness the audience's energy to create a special comedy event each week. Buenafuente emphasized that the show's purpose is to tackle the adversities of the world with a critical yet humorous perspective. "From Futuro Imperfecto, we are working to offer, every week, an hour of good television comedy," he affirmed.

The program will not only feature Buenafuente's monologues but will also include special appearances from fellow comedians and friends like Tamara García Romero, Sergi Estella, Raúl Cimas, Silvia Abril, and Berto Romero. These collaborators will bring their own flair to the show, helping to convey the complexities of the world through their comedic styles.

In addition to the monologues and guest appearances, Futuro Imperfecto will incorporate various sketches, conversations with diverse guests, and live musical performances, adding layers of entertainment to the viewing experience.

Buenafuente's impressive career spans over 30 years in television and radio, making him a well-respected figure in Spanish media. He has received multiple accolades, including six Premios Ondas and the Premio Nacional de Televisión in 2020, cementing his status as a leading voice in the industry.

On the eve of his show's premiere, Buenafuente appeared on the program La Revuelta, where he discussed the significance of his new role at RTVE. He expressed his excitement about being part of the public broadcaster's lineup, which has recently welcomed other notable figures, including María Patiño and Belén Esteban, who have brought new energy to the network.

Reflecting on the demands of his career, Buenafuente candidly shared, "This work is a bit of a slave to you because it forces you to take care of yourself." At 60 years old, he feels healthier than he did at 40, attributing this change to a greater awareness of health and well-being. He humorously remarked, "If I weren’t on television, I would be a human disaster: I’d weigh 300 kilos and be very neglected."

Buenafuente's arrival at RTVE marks a significant moment for the network, as he is considered a cornerstone of late-night television in Spain. He described the opportunity to record in a theater as a luxury, allowing him to express his comedic insights freely. "I can diagnose the world with comedy and do whatever I want," he stated, highlighting the creative freedom he enjoys at RTVE.

In a light-hearted moment during his appearance on La Revuelta, Buenafuente engaged in a game of Words with fellow host David Broncano. The game involves responding to a word with another that is not directly related but still connected in some way. Buenafuente scored 7.7 for his response to Broncano's prompt of "Elevation," while Broncano scored 8.2 for his answer to Buenafuente's word "Blue."

As the premiere date approaches, anticipation grows for Futuro Imperfecto, with viewers eager to see how Buenafuente will blend humor and critique in his new format. The show promises to be a lively addition to RTVE's programming, bringing a refreshing mix of monologues, sketches, and guest appearances that reflect the current state of the world.

In the grand scheme of Spanish television, Buenafuente's return to RTVE is not just a personal milestone but a significant development for the network. His ability to engage audiences through humor while addressing serious topics has made him a beloved figure in the industry. With Futuro Imperfecto, Buenafuente aims to create a space where laughter meets insight, ensuring that viewers not only enjoy the show but also reflect on the world around them.

As the show gears up for its debut, it’s clear that Buenafuente is ready to bring his unique brand of comedy to a new audience, leveraging his extensive experience to create a program that resonates with viewers. With a mix of spontaneity and thoughtful commentary, Futuro Imperfecto is poised to become a staple of Spanish television, inviting audiences to join in the laughter and reflection each week.
