Andreu Buenafuente has officially made his debut on RTVE with his new comedy program, Futuro Imperfecto, which premiered on Thursday, May 8, 2025. This weekly show is a crucial part of RTVE's strategy to enhance its comedy offerings, airing right after David Broncano's popular show, La Revuelta.
The program is co-produced by Buenafuente's own production company, El Terrat, and is designed to last for one hour. It features a monologue format where Buenafuente shares his unique take on current events, aiming to provide a humorous yet critical perspective on the world we live in.
Joining Buenafuente in this venture are notable collaborators, including comedian Raúl Cimas, content creator Tamara García Romero, and musician Sergi Estella. The show will be recorded in front of a live audience at the LaFACT theater in Terrassa, which can accommodate 700 attendees. This setting is not just a backdrop; it’s integral to the show's dynamic, as Buenafuente emphasized the importance of harnessing the audience's energy to create a unique experience each week.
"The fact that we're doing it in a theater isn't a coincidence; it's a very thoughtful decision," Buenafuente stated. "We want to harness the energy of these 700 people live to make each show unique, a weekly comedy special." This approach is reminiscent of his previous television specials, where he utilized theater settings to enhance the comedic experience.
As Futuro Imperfecto aims to blend various comedic formats, it will include sketches, special guest appearances, and musical performances, making it a diverse entertainment package. The program is set to compete not only against La Revuelta but also against other new releases like Eva & Nicole on Antena 3 and the long-running reality show Supervivientes on Telecinco. In Catalonia, it will also face competition from the magic-themed show Elige una Carta, which follows magician Pere Rafart.
Buenafuente's transition to RTVE raises questions about his future at TV3, where he previously hosted Vosotros Mismos, a show known for its engaging conversations with everyday people. The uncertainty surrounding his TV3 slot will remain until he completes his initial run on RTVE.
During his promotional appearance on La Revuelta, Buenafuente addressed some confusion regarding his show's scheduling. Broncano had mistakenly suggested that Futuro Imperfecto would air on Fridays, prompting Buenafuente to clarify the information: "You got a news item that no one confirmed, which said the program was on Fridays. Everything was wrong, but everyone stuck with that," he remarked, highlighting the importance of accurate reporting.
Reflecting on his career, Buenafuente shared insights about the challenges he faced during his time on La Sexta, where his show often aired late into the night. "I remember my mother trying to stay up, but they would air three episodes of The Mentalist instead," he quipped, illustrating the difficulties that come with late-night programming. Despite these challenges, he acknowledged that those experiences taught him valuable lessons about teamwork and resilience in the entertainment industry.
As for the content of Futuro Imperfecto, Buenafuente aims to tackle the harsh realities of life with a blend of humor and critical analysis. "Every television program is a challenge. I'm not discovering anything with that, but what I do notice is that in Futuro Imperfecto, I have the opportunity to apply everything I've learned over the past 30 years. This project is, in a way, a distillation of all the programs I've done: stand-up comedy, collaborators, contact with the audience... everything comes together," he explained.
This new show is part of a broader initiative by RTVE to revamp its programming and attract a younger audience. With recent changes in leadership and a fresh approach to content, RTVE is positioning itself to compete more effectively in the current media landscape. As noted by media experts, the network's future depends on its ability to innovate and engage viewers with compelling content.
In addition to Futuro Imperfecto, RTVE has launched several other new shows, including La Familia de la Tele and That's My Jam, reflecting a significant overhaul of its programming schedule. This week marks a pivotal moment for RTVE as it seeks to redefine its identity and reconnect with audiences.
As the landscape of Spanish television continues to evolve, Andreu Buenafuente's Futuro Imperfecto represents a bold step into a new era of comedy and entertainment. With its unique format and live audience engagement, the show is poised to capture the attention of viewers looking for fresh and entertaining content.
