The Welsh dancer first joined the Strictly family back in 2017 and quickly became beloved by millions. Unfortunately, this past year brought significant challenges as she battled her illness, finding herself too unwell to join the show. Dowden discovered she had cancer after noticing a lump the day before she was set to depart for her honeymoon with fellow dancer Ben Jones.
Over the following months, Dowden faced multiple treatments, including a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and fertility preservation efforts. Remarkably, by February 2024, she received the encouraging news of "no evidence of disease," marking her road to recovery.
To commemorate Dowden’s much-anticipated return, the Strictly team initiated this season with a stunning quickstep routine—drawing applause and cheers from the audience. Joined by her fellow professionals, Dowden took center stage for the vibrant choreography set to hits such as Dua Lipa’s “Training Season” and Jungle’s “Busy Earnin’” and “Keep Moving.” Choreographed by Jason Gilkison, the routine reflected triumph and resilience, embodying Dowden’s personal fight.
