Amslod, the Dutch e-bike manufacturer, has officially announced its bankruptcy, marking the end of its operations following severe financial difficulties. The company, renowned for selling directly to customers rather than through bike shops, stated on its website it finds no other option than to file for bankruptcy shortly. This decision, which stems from tough market conditions, has led to the immediate closure of all stores and service points across the Netherlands.
Founded in 2015 after the brand had initially faded from prominence, Amslod was revitalized by descendants of its original founder, Dolsma, who began manufacturing bikes over a century ago. The e-bike manufacturer had expanded to 13 locations nationwide, riding the wave of increasing popularity for electric bicycles. Unfortunately, this boom was not enough to shield the company from financial hardship. Earlier this year, Amslod managed to avert bankruptcy by negotiating with creditors, downsizing its workforce, and closing some shops. Nevertheless, these efforts proved insufficient.
"Het bestuur ziet geen andere uitweg dan voor Amslod op korte termijn faillissement aan te vragen," noted Amslod management, as reported by NieuwsFiets. This announcement confirms the closure means no new bicycles will be sold, nor will any scheduled maintenance services be carried out.
With Amslod’s operational ceasefire, service and support for Amslod bikes have become serious concerns for owners. To address this situation, KwikFit, known for its e-bike service network, swiftly stepped up to provide assistance. Pieter Bikker, Director of E-mobility at KwikFit, assured Amslod e-bike owners, "Met een netwerk van professionele e-bike servicepunten door heel Nederland staan we klaar om hen snel en transparant te helpen." This promise includes offering repairs and maintenance at various locations across the Netherlands.
This situation puts many Amslod bike owners in uncertainty. Bikker expressed empathy for the customers, saying, "We begrijpen dat deze situatie onzekerheid veroorzaakt voor eigenaren van een Amslod e-bike." He assured them KwikFit has the expertise and means to maintain and repair Amslod bikes, preserving their functionality regardless of Amslod's future.

Similar fates have befallen other e-bike companies, with notable competitors like Stella also declaring bankruptcy earlier this year.
