Amazon Fuel Discounts Bring Relief To Prime Members

Amazon partners with BP to cut gas prices for Prime members.

Amazon is making headlines again, and this time it’s all about fuel savings for its Prime members. The retail giant has partnered with BP to offer discounts at the pump, aiming to ease the ever-increasing burden of gas prices on daily drivers across the United States. Starting from October 23, Prime members can enjoy a discount of ten cents per gallon at approximately 7,000 Amoco, BP, and AM/PM gas stations nationwide.

This new perk is estimated to save Prime members around $70 per year on their fuel expenses, which, let’s face it, is becoming increasingly necessary with gas prices feeling more expensive than your favorite coffee order. Jamil Ghani, Amazon Prime's Vice President, touted the new benefit as part of their commitment to adding substantial value to the Prime membership. "With free shipping on more than 300 million items, free access to remarkable video, sports and music content, free food delivery and substantial savings on grocery delivery and medications, Prime is an incredible value for members," stated Ghani.

But wait, there’s more! Amazon has also announced plans for the future—by 2025, Prime members can look forward to savings on electric vehicle charging through BP's electric vehicle service, BP Pulse. While details are still under wraps, this addition could mark another step forward for Amazon as it continues to expand its membership offerings.

So how do you tap this new fuel discount? It’s pretty straightforward. Members first need to enroll with Earnify, which is BP's loyalty program. After linking their Amazon account with Earnify, users can find participating gas stations using the Earnify app and redeem their discount right at the pump. Just type in your phone number or your linked payment method, and you’re all set to save.

On the flip side, this isn’t Amazon's first rodeo with partnerships aimed at enhancing value for Prime members. Just last year, the company integrated its services with Grubhub, allowing members to enjoy free delivery on food orders worth up to $120 annually. With perks like these, it’s no wonder consumers are increasingly tempted to join or maintain their Prime memberships.

Joining Prime can set you back $14.99 monthly or $139 annually, but qualifying students and government assistance recipients can access even more attractive rates under different plans. You can even dip your toes with a free 30-day trial to see if it fits your lifestyle before committing fully.

To put things in perspective, Amazon’s bold move challenges competitors like Walmart, which previously rolled out its own fuel savings program for Walmart+ members. Walmart raised its gas discounts from five cents to ten cents per gallon as of last year, partnering with over 13,000 gas stations including Exxon and Mobil.

The fuel discount initiative aligns with Amazon's broader strategy to entice more users to its Prime program as competition heats up. Other retailers like Costco and Sam's Club also provide similar fuel savings perks, highlighting how important these offerings have become within the current consumer marketplace.
