Amazon Driver Dumps Packages Citing Stress

LAKEVILLE, Mass. — An Amazon driver faced scrutiny after abandoning about 80 packages in the woods, citing stress as the reason behind their actions. The incident came to light during a routine police patrol early on Sunday, December 22, when Lakeville Sgt. Shawn Robert discovered several large totes filled with packages scattered across the forested area.

According to the Lakeville Police Department, the sergeant was on duty around 2 a.m. when he noticed the unusual sight. Upon closer examination, he found three large totes containing Amazon packages hidden amid the trees. Officers quickly identified the items, which totaled around 80 packages, and gathered them for safe return at the local police department.

The following day, the driver responsible for the abandoned packages approached the police station to explain their actions. They reported having left the packages on the side of the road on Saturday evening, admitting, "they were stressed". This troubling incident has raised questions about the pressures faced by delivery drivers working for major corporations like Amazon.

Following the discovery, officers contacted the Amazon distribution center located in Middleborough to arrange for the return of the packages. Chief Perkins of the Lakeville Police commended his officers for their swift response and professionalism. He stated, "I am proud of the way our Lakeville Police officers handled and investigated this matter. At this time, we are not seeking criminal charges and are considering this a human resources matter for Amazon.
