Amanda Holden And Alan Carr Transform Historic Spanish Villa

The beloved duo takes on their most ambitious renovation project yet, breathing new life and humor back to the sleepy village of Moclin.

Amanda Holden and Alan Carr, the beloved duo known for their vibrant personalities and comical banter, are making waves again as they take on their latest renovation project on the new BBC show Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job. Nestled within the sun-soaked hills of Andalusia, the pair are embarking on their most ambitious venture yet—transforming a dilapidated property steeped in history.

The show premiered on January 24, marking the duo’s first Spanish renovation after the success of their previous series, Amanda and Alan's Italian Job, where they set out to restore long-neglected homes across Italy. This time, they set their eyes on Moclin, a picturesque village located approximately one hour from Granada.

Holden, 53, and Carr, 48, have encountered hilarious and somewhat revolting surprises during their renovation escapades, including discovering human waste left behind. "Can we mention what was in the bath?" Carr quipped during their promotional engagement, to which Holden replied, "Yes we can! There was poo in the bath, kids!" With light-hearted laughter, they recounted the incident where they had to throw the mess out the window, showcasing their comedic chemistry and hands-on approach to renovations.

After standing empty for 35 years, the historic home the duo purchased for €65,000 sits directly across from the town hall. Not only does this location boast charm, but also features Spain's youngest (and purportedly sexiest) mayor, as Carr humorously pointed out. The duo aims to revitalize the community of Moclin, which has seen its population dwindling. Holden explained their mission succinctly, stating, "We want to find places lost their energy and young people to put effort and money back where it’s needed." Their enthusiasm is palpable; they seek to breathe new life and vitality back to the town of just 200 residents.

Remarkably, these renovations are not merely surface-level fixes. The friends have committed to incorporating elements reflecting the rich history of Andalusia, especially the region's Moorish influences. Holden's recent visit to the Alhambra palace had inspired her to interweave the exquisite architectural styles, “It’s just gorgeous," she remarked. They have even sourced local artisans to recycle and upcycle materials, which adds unique cultural touchstones to their work.

"It’s been fascinating to get hands-on and to learn about this region," shared Carr. While the house required significant structural work, such as roof replacements, Carr and Holden expertly navigated through the process, often showcasing their practical skills. They will incorporate Mudejar-style ceilings, employing historic construction techniques learned from their immersive experience during the show.

Despite the challenges, including dealing with waste and unexpected visitors—like the snake dropping from the ceiling—there's no doubt the two share genuine joy and camaraderie throughout the entire process. Holden described the experience, saying, "We're putting our hearts and souls, and absolutely love the great conversations and laughter we share on this project." Beyond the renovation, viewers will witness the duo immersing themselves deeply within the local culture, exploring Andalusian traditions and culinary delights.

Throughout their adventures, Holden and Carr have not shied away from some light-hearted disagreements, particularly concerning design choices. Just moments before their show aired, they appeared on BBC’s The One Show, where Carr teased Holden about her decor preferences, labeling them as "tacky." Laughter erupted as Holden defended her choices, claiming her style is "very RuPaul!" Their playful exchanges not only entertain but enrich the narrative, offering viewers insight as two friends take on home-making challenges head-on and with humor.

Once their renovations are completed, the plan is to turn Casa Alamanda, as they’ve dubbed it,into boutique-style accommodation to encourage year-round use, as both the atmosphere of the town and steady tourism are expected to weave together harmoniously. There’s even talk of adding more rooms!

Once the series ends, the furnished property will be available for sale, aimed at attracting new residents and visitors alike. "We hope to create something memorable and inject new energy back to Moclin," Carr expressed, emphasizing the broader impacts of their show on the local community.

Amanda & Alan's Spanish Job is more than just another renovation show; it’s filled with warmth, charm, and heartfelt intentions to uplift and promote the unique character of rural Spain. Fans will surely tune in, eager to see how the pair's endeavors will reshape the narrative of this sleepy village, hoping the stardust they sprinkle brings fresh life and energy back to Moclin.
