Allwyn Acquires 51% Stake In Novibet To Boost Growth

The lottery operator aims to expand its online gaming and sports betting capabilities through strategic acquisition, pending regulatory approvals.

Allwyn, the multinational lottery operator, has announced its acquisition of a 51% stake in Logflex MT Holding Limited, the parent company of Novibet, marking a pivotal moment for the company as it ventures more deeply into online gaming and sports betting.

The transaction, officially revealed on December 29, 2024, requires regulatory and antitrust approvals and is expected to conclude by the second half of 2025. Initial payments for the acquisition will amount to €217 million, with potential additional payments of up to €110 million based on future performance. This move aligns with Allwyn’s strategy to bolster its technological capabilities and market position, building on its recent purchase of Instant Win Gaming.

Robert Chvatal, CEO of Allwyn, expressed enthusiasm over the deal, stating, "The transaction will allow us to provide an enhanced experience for our customers in sports betting and online games." He emphasized Novibet’s innovative approach and its existing international footprint—which covers countries such as Brazil, Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, and Mexico—as key benefits of the acquisition.

Currently, Novibet boasts over 1,000 employees and holds significant market share within various territories, making its acquisition strategically beneficial for Allwyn. Indeed, the company's reputation for delivering quality online gaming experiences will play a pivotal role as Allwyn seeks to expand its global reach.

Chvatal highlighted the importance of Novibet's team, saying, "Novibet has a highly qualified staff, and we are focused on the international opportunities this acquisition will bring." His remarks suggest confidence not only in the operational aspects of the deal but also the overall alignment of corporate cultures.

Since March 2023, Novibet has been the master sponsor of the Fortaleza football club, marking the largest sponsorship agreement in the club's history. Although the financial details of this deal remain undisclosed, it indicates Novibet’s active engagement with sports organizations, enhancing its visibility and relevance within the sports community.

With this acquisition, Allwyn reinforces its goal of becoming a leading player not just within lottery operations but across digital platforms where consumers engage with gaming and betting. The company is poised to benefit significantly from Novibet’s established brand and operational strategies, paving the way for future growth.

Allwyn’s acquisition also reflects larger trends within the gaming industry, where companies are increasingly seeking to diversify their portfolios and tap new markets. Regulatory passages allowing for sports betting expansions present lucrative opportunities for both new and existing players.

The deal is particularly significant for the Brazilian market, where Novibet’s sponsorship of Fortaleza aligns with broader industry trends as gaming regulations evolve. Observers will be watching closely how Allwyn leverages this acquisition to penetrate this burgeoning market.

Overall, the acquisition positions Allwyn not just as a lottery operator but as a formidable force within the online gaming sector—a move reflecting both current market dynamics and future operational aspirations. The integration of Novibet is expected to deliver enhanced technological resources, invigorated marketing strategies, and greater consumer engagement across Allwyn’s growing portfolio.
