Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid was all smiles as she hailed her colleague, Alex Beresford, on the show following the birth of his daughter, Camille. During the broadcast on the morning of March 4, 2025, Reid was quick to offer her congratulations, saying, "Congratulations Alex and with love..."
Not missing a beat, Beresford interjected to ask for the current time. "What time is it?" Susanna replied, "It's 6:18 am." Alex, eager to share, announced, "So, Camille was born three weeks ago today at 6:13, so this time three weeks ago, I was very much in the labour suite, having an absolutely amazing time." The screen then lit up with a photo of Alex cradling his newborn.
With evident joy, Beresford gushed about Camille, declaring, "It's been so good! So, so good and I feel like I've got a new lease on energy." He shared his previous apprehensions about becoming a parent again, alluding to his upcoming milestone birthday. "Before, I was thinking, 'Gosh, 45 this year, what's it going to be like this time around?'" With humor, he noted how this new chapter feels invigorated.
Ed Balls, also present on the show, interjected with playful skepticism about Alex's newfound energy. "Can I say, Alex, it's not normal for parents to have a new lease of energy. It's normal for them to be exhausted. Does your partner have a new lease of energy?" Laughter erupted as Beresford joked off Ed's remark.
Alex then praised his partner, Imogen, for her remarkable strength throughout the childbirth and early parenting phases, adding, "She's just been incredible, hats off to her. If men were to have children, there would be no more children because what she did was absolutely incredible." His admiration extended to Imogen's dedication to breastfeeding and handling cluster feeding, describing his experiences watching her navigate motherhood as "a joy to watch."
Balls reflected on his own parenting experiences, humorously recalling how his wife, Yvette Cooper, put him on nappy duty for their first month together. "Oh, I do the lot because that's the one thing I can do because she's breastfeeding all the time and Camille wants to be on mummy. The one thing I can do is change nappies, so I've been changing every single nappy."
Reid noted how busy the newborn must be keeping both parents, to which Beresford responded with amazement. He took the opportunity to thank the staff at The Queen Charlotte at Chelsea Hospital, especially their midwife, stating, "They were absolutely amazing! Big respect for the NHS for everything they do because I just saw so many people constantly going the extra mile. So grateful."
It’s worth noting this is Alex’s second child; he shares responsibility for his 14-year-old son, Cruz, with his ex-partner, Natalia Natkaniec. Beresford expressed how this experience has been different as he welcomes another child.
