Alan Jones, once one of Australia's most powerful radio personalities, has recently found himself at the center of controversy following his arrest on multiple charges of indecent assault and sexual touching. The former shock jock, now 83 years old, faces 24 offences against eight alleged victims, with accusations spanning nearly two decades, from 2001 to 2019. The youngest of the alleged victims was just 17 at the time of the incidents.
On November 18, NSW Police announced the arrest of Jones after officers executed a search warrant at his lavish Circular Quay apartment, which boasts stunning views of Sydney Harbour. This arrest concluded lengthy investigatory efforts conducted by the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad, which had established Strike Force Bonnefin to look closely at the allegations leveled against him, according to police statements.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Fitzgerald, commenting on the situation, said, “We will allege the accused knew some of them personally, some of them professionally, and we will also allege some of the victims, when the alleged offense took place, were meeting the accused for the first time.”
Among the charges brought against Jones, 11 counts involve aggravated indecent assault related to victims under his authority, alongside nine counts of assault with acts of indecency, and other counts for sexual touching without consent.
Despite these serious accusations, Jones' legal representative asserts his innocence, with lawyer Christopher Murphy stating, “Alan Jones will assert his innocence appropriately in the courtroom. He denies any misconduct.” Jones was granted conditional bail following his arrest and is scheduled to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on December 18.
