Akihiro Tsunoda Celebrates 51st Birthday On Hot Shots Set

Birthday surprise includes cake and heartfelt wishes from co-stars

Akihiro Tsunoda, known for his role in the popular comedy group Tokyo03, celebrated his 51st birthday on December 13 with a surprise party organized by his fellow cast members during the filming of the new drama series Hot Shots. The celebration included heartfelt wishes and delightful surprises from co-stars Minako Ichikawa, An Suzuki, and Kami Hiraiwa, along with the crew.

Hot Shots, which is set to premiere on January 12, 2025, on Nippon Television, features Tsunoda as one of the main cast alongside Ichikawa, Suzuki, and Hiraiwa. The show, penned by the acclaimed scriptwriter Bakarhythm, tells the story of Kiyomi Endo, played by Ichikawa, who encounters aliens one day, leading to comedic and unconventional events. It will air every Sunday at 10:30 PM.

The surprise celebrations took place during filming on set, where Tsunoda’s fellow actors and the staff serenaded him with the classic Happy Birthday song. They presented him with unique Fuji mountain-shaped gifts, enhancing the joyous atmosphere of the day. This lighthearted occasion illustrated the growing camaraderie among the cast members.

Tsunoda expressed his appreciation, stating, "ありがとうございます。51歳になりました。(演じている役の)ジジィくさい高橋にまた近づきました。ジジィらしい雰囲気をもっと出せるように頑張ります!" which translates to, "Thank you very much. I have turned 51. I feel I am getting closer to the 'old man' persona of Takahashi I am portraying. I will work hard to bring out more of the 'old man' vibe!" This humorous acknowledgment of aging was well received by those around him, evoking laughter and joy.

The setting of Hot Shots is not just limited to the light-hearted interactions among characters but also promises to weave the extraordinary with the ordinary. While filming on this birthday, the cast engaged in long, single-scenario takes. One scene even addressed the theme of forgetfulness, showcasing daily life challenges, which stand in stark juxtaposition to the show's extraterrestrial elements.

Expectations are high for how the show will integrate the seemingly mundane aspects of life with the whimsical concept of local aliens. The production team, which previously received notable acclaim for their work on Brush Up Life, is once again creating original content, evidently blending humor with thought-provoking storytelling.

The enthusiasm surrounding the cast’s efforts, coupled with Tsunoda's birthday celebration, provides not just festive moments but also hints at the show's potential to resonate with audiences through its unique narrative style. With everything set for release next January, fans eagerly await the upcoming comedic adventures.
