Ajith Kumar's Vidaamuyarchi Sets Box Office Highs With Stellar Advance Bookings

The action thriller rakes in over Rs 46 crore worldwide before its release, signaling strong audience anticipation.

Ajith Kumar's upcoming film, Vidaamuyarchi, has generated massive excitement within the Tamil film community, primarily fueled by its impressive advance bookings and strong box office projections. Originally set for release during the Pongal festival of January 2025, the action thriller was postponed to February 6, 2025, due to "unavoidable circumstances." This film marks Ajith's grand return to the big screen after over two years, and fans are more than eager to celebrate this occasion.

Directed by the acclaimed Magizh Thirumeni, known for hits like Kalaga Thalaivan and Thadam, Vidaamuyarchi features a talented ensemble cast, including Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Regina Cassandra, and Arav. The film's tagline, "Perseverance triumphs," coupled with thrilling action sequences showcased in the recently released trailer, has heightened anticipation among audiences.

Upon the trailer's release, fans erupted with excitement, and the film's advance booking figures quickly began to reflect this enthusiasm. By midweek, Vidaamuyarchi raked in approximately Rs 8.74 crore in advance ticket sales across 5,722 shows nationwide. Tamil Nadu emerged as the key market, contributing Rs 7.45 crore, with Karnataka following at Rs 88.4 lakh. Such stellar numbers hint at strong opening day collections slated for February 6.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film's advance sales exceeded 4,74,600 tickets sold. With ticket prices reportedly set between Rs 200 and Rs 700, the blockbuster is set to capitalize on Ajith's star power and strong box office track record. Ajith's remuneration for the project is between Rs 110-120 crore, indicating the high stakes involved.

Regina Cassandra, who plays one of the pivotal characters, discussed her role during an interview, emphasizing how Vidaamuyarchi allowed her to showcase her acting versatility. “I had a lot of questions, and just knowing what I was going to be doing excited me,” she stated, highlighting her positive experience on set and the collaboration with her colleagues.

The response to advance bookings has also revealed significant regional interest, especially from Tamil Nadu, where 5.5 lakh tickets were sold for nearly 2,750 shows and more than 55% average occupancy rates were recorded. Karnataka also saw excitement building with ticket sales worth Rs 1.85 crore and strong sales from Bengaluru contributing dramatically to the overall numbers.

The overall picture looks promising for Vidaamuyarchi, which has amassed total advance bookings of around Rs 46 crore globally for its opening weekend. This includes Rs 37 crore from domestic markets, with impressive international pre-sales of around Rs 9.50 crore, showcasing the film’s widespread popularity even before its official release.

Critics and audiences alike are particularly interested to see if Vidaamuyarchi can meet the towering expectations set by Ajith's past performances and the buzz created through its marketing. Many suggest the success of the film will depend heavily on word-of-mouth reviews and audience reactions post-release.

While other regional films, such as those from neighboring Telugu cinema, face tough competition, Vidaamuyarchi's strategic Thursday release is expected to generate significant revenues over its four-day opening weekend. With projections estimating potential earnings of over Rs 50 crore on opening day and strong support from Ajith's fanbase, expectations continue to climb.

The film's music, composed by the ever-popular Anirudh Ravichander, promises to amplify its appeal, making it one of the most anticipated releases for not just Ajith fans, but the entire Tamil film industry. With all these elements aligning, the stage is set for Ajith Kumar's triumphant return, and Vidaamuyarchi looks poised to make waves at the box office.
