Ajith Kumar’s much-anticipated film Good Bad Ugly has officially kicked off its theatrical run with a remarkable performance at the box office. Released on April 10, 2025, the film garnered a staggering ₹28.50 crore net across all languages in India on its opening day, according to early estimates from the Sacnilk website.
The film, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, showcased a strong reception, particularly in its Tamil version, which recorded an impressive 79.47% occupancy rate throughout the day. Night shows alone peaked at 88.81%, showcasing Ajith’s immense fan following and positive word-of-mouth. Morning, afternoon, and evening shows had occupancy rates of 73.14%, 81.14%, and 74.80%, respectively.
In contrast, the Telugu version of Good Bad Ugly saw a more modest performance, with an overall occupancy of 16.98%, peaking at 20.55% during night shows. Despite these lower figures in the Telugu-speaking regions, the pan-India response has set a promising stage for a strong weekend ahead.
Ajith Kumar plays the role of AK, also known as Red Dragon, a former gangster who returns to his old life to save his son Vihaan from a drug case. The plot unfolds as he confronts twin antagonists, Jammie and Johnny, leading to a mix of emotional and action-packed moments that resonate with his loyal audience.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, Rahul Dev, Yogi Babu, Priya Prakash Varrier, Jackie Shroff, Tinnu Anand, Sunil Varma, and Sayaji Shinde. With music composed by GV Prakash Kumar and cinematography by Abinandham Ramanujam, Good Bad Ugly aims to deliver a cinematic experience that appeals to both fans and casual viewers.
While the film received mixed reviews, it has been described as an unabashed fan vehicle for Ajith Kumar. A review from the media gave it a solid rating of 3 out of 5, stating, “With Good Bad Ugly, director Adhik Ravichandran cooks up an unabashed fan vehicle for Ajith Kumar that's overloud, chaotic and still largely entertaining. The good news is that for Ajith fans, the film is nothing short of a celebration of their idol, with almost every scene providing a callback to the superstar's older hits.”
As the film continues to draw audiences, it is already on track to challenge existing box office records. It is expected to surpass the opening day collection of Vidaamuyarchi, which earned ₹27 crore back in February 2025, with a morning occupancy of 58.8%.
By 2 PM on its opening day, Good Bad Ugly had already earned ₹10.85 crore, which is approximately 40% of Vidaamuyarchi’s opening day collection. Ticket sales have soared, with over 112,000 tickets sold by that time, marking an 86% increase compared to the previous day’s sales.
In a parallel box office battle, Thalapathy Vijay’s film GOAT (Greatest of All Time) also released on the same day and broke opening day records with a collection of ₹43 crore in India. Although both films received mixed reviews, the star power of Ajith Kumar and Thalapathy Vijay has driven audiences to theaters, showcasing the intense competition between the two leading actors.
As the weekend approaches, the box office performance of Good Bad Ugly will be closely monitored, with expectations that it will continue to draw significant crowds. The film’s success will not only reflect Ajith Kumar’s popularity but also the strong support from his fanbase, which has proven crucial in the film industry.
In summary, Good Bad Ugly has made a powerful statement on its opening day, setting the stage for what could be a record-breaking weekend. With its blend of action, drama, and nostalgia for Ajith Kumar’s fans, the film is poised to make a lasting impact at the box office.
