The Bar Council of India (BCI) has officially published the results for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) 19, allowing candidates who participated in the examination to check their scores. The results were declared on March 21, 2025, and candidates can access them via the official website, allindiabarexamination.com. To log in, candidates need to input their registration number and their date of birth as the password.
The AIBE 19 exam was conducted on December 22, 2024, featuring 100 questions spanning 19 different legal subjects. However, after the withdrawal of seven questions, the results were computed on the basis of 93 questions. According to the official notice, candidates who submitted incorrect documents will see their results withheld until the appropriate documentation is provided through the upload portal.
“Additionally, candidates who signed an Undertaking during the AIBE-XIX exam are also required to upload their Enrolment Certificate to the same portal,” the notice detailed.
Passing criteria for candidates in the General and Other Backward Classes (OBC) category is set at 45% of 93 marks, which translates to 42 marks. Conversely, those belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and persons with disabilities must acquire at least 40% of the total marks, equal to 37 marks. Candidates who do not pass this exam can retake it in future sessions, as there are no restrictions on the number of attempts.
After the AIBE 19 results are released, successful candidates will receive a Certificate of Practice (CoP), which is essential for practicing law within India. Those who hold a bachelor's degree in law, or are currently in their third year of law studies, are eligible to take the AIBE.
The exam itself is designed to test candidates' comprehension of various law topics, including constitutional law, the Indian Penal Code (IPC), family law, and intellectual property laws. Candidates earn one mark for each correct answer, with no penalties for incorrect responses.
The BCI also announced that candidates dissatisfied with their results will have the opportunity to apply for rechecking. The official window for rechecking applications will be opened soon.
On March 21, 2025, the Supreme Court remarked that the Bar Council of India should not interfere in legal education, emphasizing that such responsibilities should rest with jurists and educational professionals.
As law graduates eagerly await their results, the BCI is working to ensure that the exam process maintains transparency and fairness throughout. The AIBE is pivotal for aspiring lawyers as it sets the standard for legal practice qualification in India.
In summary, the AIBE serves as a crucial gateway for law graduates in India, demanding high compliance with the examination standards set forth by the BCI to foster skilled legal professionals equipped to serve in the Indian legal system.
