The application of artificial intelligence (AI) within educational contexts and the content creation industry has become not only relevant but necessary, representing the convergence of technology and pedagogy. On February 28, 2025, the University of Information Technology and Communication Vietnam-Korea (VKU) held a workshop jointly with the University of Economics and Finance (UEF), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), and Phenikaa University to discuss the integration of AI in blended learning programs.
The seminar attracted over 300 participants, including education managers, lecturers, and students, alongside experts from the UK who shared valuable insights on AI's role. Dr. Huỳnh Ngọc Thọ, Vice President of VKU, emphasized the significance of this event by stating, "This workshop enhances awareness about the role and potential of AI integration within blended learning systems across Vietnam."
Dr. Thọ also pointed out the practical knowledge being shared at the seminar, particularly on effectively designing courses incorporating AI, which is expected to significantly improve teaching methodologies and student evaluations. The discussion also provided opportunities for networking among educational professionals from both domestic and international institutions.
At the same time, Dr. Nguyễn Thị Anh Thư, Vice President of the International Technology Institute (DNIIT) at the University of Danang, shared her perspective on AI's educational potential, affirming, "The application of AI is inevitable for higher education in the digital age," highlighting the inherent benefits of AI-enhanced personalized learning for students.
Throughout 2025, the publishing industry is anticipated to witness substantial shifts due to advancements in technology and changing consumer behaviors. Key trends include the continuing rise of e-books and audiobooks, with the e-book market expected to reach $19.9 billion by the end of the year, marking annual growth of 5.4%. Meanwhile, the audiobook market is surging, foreseen to grow to around $15 billion globally by 2025, reflecting rapid changes spurred by technological innovations.
Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng noted the transformation within the publishing space, stating, "We must teach AI editorial skills; it should assist us, not replace us," pointing to the necessity of AI tools for supporting creative processes. He highlighted how using AI could potentially lower book production costs by up to 30%, as confirmed by McKinsey's 2024 report, which also highlighted the significant reductions seen through automated editing and production solutions.
The rise of self-publishing has likewise become notable, with many authors opting to publish independently rather than through traditional publishers. A Bowker study from 2023 indicates self-publishing has surged 264% over the last five years, with over one million new titles per year appearing on platforms like Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).
This trend is perceived as not just beneficial for authors wanting more control, but also for the broader dissemination of information and knowledge within communities. Authors can utilize various platforms for exposure, circumventing traditional publishing gatekeepers.
Challenges, such as addressing copyright issues and the protection of intellectual property rights, will also emerge as significant concerns due to the accelerated growth of both e-books and self-publishing interests. The marketplace must adapt to these legal challenges, perhaps considering innovative solutions like blockchain technology to monitor rights more effectively.
The integration of AI, coupled with big data analytics, is revolutionizing storytelling within the journalism sector, where newsrooms worldwide are shifting to merge traditional and digital platforms. Bùi Công Duyến, head of the ONECMS news convergence product, stated, "AI is becoming integral to modern newsrooms, automizing workflows and delivering highly customized news to audiences swiftly."
These changes are reflected not only at major institutions but also across local news outlets striving to meet growing audience demands. The future of publishing and education will heavily rely on continually adapting to these technological innovations, ensuring they meet the educational needs and recognize the importance of copyright and distribution practices.
Engaging deeply with AI will be necessary for both the educational sector and the publishing domain to promote sustainable innovation and responsiveness to the digital age.
