AI Innovation Takes Center Stage At AWE 2025

Samsung and LG unveil cutting-edge appliances at China's leading electronics expo, showcasing the future of smart home technology.

In an impressive display of innovation and technology, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have unveiled their latest AI-powered home appliances at the Appliance and Electronics World Expo 2025 (AWE 2025), taking place at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. This significant event, which runs until March 23, is a hallmark of consumer electronics, gathering over 1,000 companies and expected to draw more than 360,000 visitors, highlighting the growing importance of AI integration in everyday life.

Samsung showcases an extensive range of products, occupying a notable 1,512-square-meter exhibition space. Among the star attractions is the Bespoke AI hybrid refrigerator, featuring a vibrant 9-inch display, designed not only for functionality but to enhance user engagement through AI-driven interfaces. In tandem with this, the company introduces the Bespoke AI combo washer-dryer, which also comes equipped with a 7-inch screen, streamlining household tasks by making laundry more intuitive.

Responding specifically to the preferences of the Chinese market, Samsung has rolled out the Kitchen Fit Max refrigerator. With a design tailored to fit the standard dimensions of Chinese kitchen furniture—a slim 600 mm in depth—the refrigerator offers an impressive capacity of 501 liters. This strategic move underscores Samsung's commitment to understanding and catering to regional consumer needs.

Additionally, the company highlights the Bespoke washing machine that employs Space Max technology. This innovative design reduces the width to just 550 mm while boasting a 12 kg load capacity, addressing space constraints in many urban homes. Complementing this collection are the Bespoke air dresser, which ensures clothing care, and the Bespoke AI steam cleaner, making floor maintenance easier and more efficient.

Not to be outdone, LG Electronics occupies a 1,104-square-meter exhibition hall under the theme of “Affectionate Intelligence for Diverse Lifestyles.” At their booth, LG showcases their AI home hub called LG ThinQ On, which interacts with users through advanced speech recognition and environmental awareness. This hub, supported by numerous sensors around the home, controls various connected appliances and provides a seamless integration of technology throughout the household.

LG's display focuses heavily on its AI Core Tech, which enhances appliance capabilities through the application of AI in motors and compressors. Visitors to their exhibit experienced AI-powered washing machines that adapt washing intensity based on fabric types and air conditioners that smartly adjust temperature settings by analyzing room conditions.

As the event unfolds, the integration of AI technology in home appliances remains a central theme. According to Jiang Feng, executive director of the China Household Electrical Appliances Association (CHEAA), AI is key in advancing product innovation and enhancing user experiences. He stated that “AI and home appliances are deeply integrated,” promising new development opportunities in the smart home sector. The event is an excellent opportunity for companies to demonstrate how such advancements can improve daily life.

Industry experts emphasize that whether AI appliances can generate a new consumption wave will largely depend on user experiences and product prices. Peng Xiandong, general manager of GFK Zhongyikang's large home appliance division, underscored that AI must offer distinct advantages to consumers at acceptable prices to foster the next wave of innovation.

As the exhibition continues, businesses like Haier are also leveraging AI. Li Huagang, chairman and president of Haier Smart Home, noted that AI strategies have drastically shortened their product development cycles, enhancing efficiency and responsiveness across production and sales platforms. Li stated, “AI empowers home appliance manufacturers' entire research, production, and sales process,” emphasizing the transformative potential of these technologies.

Furthermore, LG's commitment to enhancing user interaction is evident through products like their AI-driven oven, which recommends cooking recipes tailored to user preferences and habits. The incorporation of AI in appliances not only seeks to revolutionize user engagement but to personalize it further, making technology responsive to individual lifestyles.

As AI continues to penetrate the home appliance sector, lessons learned from companies like Samsung and LG point toward a collective industry goal of whole-house intelligence. Achieving this level of technological integration requires collaboration across brands and platforms to ensure that AI truly enhances user experience and satisfaction.
