AFRODAD Launches Exciting Internship Program For 2025

Applications open for opportunities to impact Africa's economic future

For those eager to contribute to Africa's economic development, the African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) has launched its 2025 Internship Program, inviting passionate individuals from across the continent to apply. This internship offers not only hands-on experience but also the chance to engage with significant issues surrounding debt management and economic justice, which are central to the sustainable development of African nations.

AFRODAD, based firmly on the principles of enhancing public participation and accountability, works collaboratively with 16 African countries. The organization's goal is to mitigate heavy indebtedness by advocating for sustainable policies and responsible borrowing. The 2025 Internship promises interns unique exposure to policy advocacy, and economic justice, and equips them with organizational management skills necessary for driving change.

The deadline for applications is set for noon (SAT) on Saturday, November 30, 2024. Aspiring interns are encouraged to submit a personal statement detailing their interest, along with their CV and at least three references, including one from their educational institution. Applications can be sent to AFRODAD's Executive Director via email.

“This internship spurs on those who are motivated to tackle the pressing challenges facing the continent today, particularly concerning public finance and debt sustainability,” said Mercy Awofiranye, one of the program’s coordinators.

Internship opportunities exist across several fields, including:

  • Policy, Research & Advocacy

  • Sovereign Debt Management

  • Domestic Resource Mobilization

  • Legal Advocacy & Analysis on Debt

  • International, Public & Private Finance

  • Campaigns & Communication

  • Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

  • Human Resources & Administration

  • Executive Director’s Office

To be eligible for the internship, candidates must hold either a bachelor’s or master’s degree related to the fields listed, and ideally possess strong analytical and communication skills. Being proficient across both English and French will be advantageous for applicants from Cameroon, reflecting the bilingual nature of many African nations.

Interns will work remotely, with AFRODAD providing the necessary support for effective collaboration. They will be expected to have their own laptops and stable internet access, ensuring they can engage fully with their projects.

Benefits of the internship include gaining valuable hands-on experience, exposure to pressing financial issues concerning African development, and honing analytical, research, and presentation skills. Most significantly, interns will be at the forefront of championing economic justice and sustainable development.

“The internship lasts for six months, allowing participants ample time to immerse themselves fully and make meaningful contributions,” added Awofiranye. “Interns will leave with not only experience but also insights and skills relevant to advancing Africa’s development agenda globally.”

For individuals passionate about fostering economic development and making significant, tangible impacts, the AFRODAD Internship Program provides an extraordinary platform to contribute and grow professionally. With the deadline approaching, now is the time to prepare applications and take this step toward meaningful change.
