Aespa Unveils English Version Of Whiplash At Billboard Awards

The K-Pop group will perform their new single and receive Group of the Year honor at the event

International K-Pop sensation aespa has taken the music world by storm once again with the release of an English version of their hit single "Whiplash" on March 27, 2025. The group, consisting of members Karina, Giselle, Winter, and Ningning, will perform the English rendition for the first time at Billboard's Women in Music 2025 event in Los Angeles on March 29, where they will also be honored as Group of the Year.

The English version of "Whiplash" is part of aespa's upcoming single album, which will also feature a techno house remix by renowned DJ and producer Steve Aoki. This remix is expected to infuse the already energetic track with Aoki's signature style, promising an exhilarating experience for fans. "We’re so excited to share these new versions of 'Whiplash' with our global Mys and to have Steve Aoki remix the song," aespa stated in a recent interview. "The new English version and remix have a different charm from the original, and since it's a song we can now sing with even more global Mys, we're excited for the day we get to perform it on stage."

The original "Whiplash" debuted in October 2024 as the title track of aespa's fifth mini-album, which quickly became a commercial success, selling over a million copies. The song, characterized by its punchy bass beat and catchy lyrics, gained widespread acclaim, landing at No. 53 on Spotify’s global top songs chart. It has amassed over 150 million views on YouTube and entered the Billboard World Albums and Global 200 charts, solidifying aespa’s position as a leading force in the K-Pop genre.

In addition to the English version, aespa has also released a sped-up version of the single, further expanding its appeal to a diverse audience. The group has been recognized for their innovative approach and trend-setting style, with Billboard praising them for their authenticity and professionalism. Karina, the group's leader, emphasized the importance of being genuine in their artistry: "We’re honest. Of course, you have to be professional and present your best self, but we also try to show the not-perfect side… We’re not trying to filter everything or over-mask ourselves." This commitment to authenticity resonates with their fanbase, known as "Mys," who eagerly anticipate the new releases.

Steve Aoki, who has collaborated with numerous artists throughout his career, expressed his excitement about working with aespa. "I'm so excited to team up with aespa on 'Whiplash,'" Aoki said. "The original already has such an electrifying energy, so getting to collaborate with the group to bring a fresh new vibe to the record was a fun creative challenge." His remix is expected to elevate the already dynamic track, blending elements of electronic dance music with aespa's unique sound.

The upcoming performance at Billboard's Women in Music 2025 is a significant milestone for aespa, marking their first live presentation of the English version of "Whiplash." Fans have taken to social media to express their enthusiasm for the event, with many predicting an unforgettable performance. Comments such as "That’s going to be one electric performance! Can't wait to see it!" and "A special moment for fans to look forward to" highlight the anticipation surrounding the group's appearance.

Aespa's journey in the music industry has been remarkable since their debut on November 17, 2020, with their first single "Black Mamba" breaking records for the most-viewed debut music video in 24 hours. Their innovative approach to music and performance, combined with their exploration of themes related to the metaverse and hyperpop, has set them apart from other K-Pop groups.

The Billboard Women in Music event, established in 2007, celebrates the contributions of women in the music industry, honoring artists, creators, producers, and executives who have made significant impacts. Aespa's recognition as Group of the Year reflects their groundbreaking achievements and international recognition over the past year.

To date, aespa has garnered a massive following with over 37.5 million social media followers, showcasing their influence and popularity. They recently wrapped up the North American leg of their highly anticipated world tour, performing 41 concerts across 28 cities, including a two-day gig in Seoul on March 16, 2025.

As the music landscape continues to evolve, aespa remains at the forefront, pushing boundaries and setting trends that resonate with fans worldwide. The release of the English version of "Whiplash" and the upcoming Billboard performance are just the latest chapters in their ever-growing story, and fans are eager to see what the future holds for this dynamic group.
