Ayano Katase, known for her prominent acting career, is embarking on a new chapter of her life, stepping away from the glamour of the entertainment industry to work as a regular employee at Jade Group Co., Ltd., which operates fashion sites like Locondo and Reebok.
Born in 1981 as the only daughter in her family, Katase was scouted as a model during her high school years. She debuted at the age of 17, but not without facing obstacles along the way. Reflecting on her early experiences, she recalls her first acting role in the drama 'Bishoujo H.' Initially hesitant and insecure, she memorized dialogues thoroughly, leading to high expectations for her performance. "I was so confident about my first shoot, but when I saw the final product, I was devastated. I thought I looked terrible, and my acting was subpar," she recounted. This disappointment ignited her desire to improve, prompting her to pursue more serious roles.
Over the years, Katase has built up significant experience, eventually serving as the host for the information program 'Shuichi' for nearly ten years. Nevertheless, her career faced challenges. A scandal involving drug allegations linked to acquaintances placed her under scrutiny. To clear her name, she voluntarily submitted to urine tests to prove her innocence. "Although it was not my fault, I felt responsible for the trouble caused to my agency, and I chose to leave to avoid causing more damage," she explained, emphasizing her commitment to her colleagues.
Katase's decision to resign from her agency came after more than 20 years of being entrenched in the industry, leveraging her emotional struggles to redefine her life. Her resignation opened the door to working at Jade Group, where she now fully commits to being just another employee. "I wasn't even considering working at first, but the contact from President Tanaka after I posted on my YouTube channel intrigued me. Researching the company made me feel it would be interesting to collaborate," she mentioned.
Unlike the image many have of celebrities treating job positions lightly, Katase tackles her new role with the seriousness it deserves. She works five days a week, eight hours per day, just like any other employee. "I arrive and leave according to the same schedule as everyone else, and I'm treated fairly without special favors based on my acting background," she shared, relief evident in her voice.
Adapting to the office life brought unexpected feelings. "I didn't think I would enjoy the routine of waking up and commuting daily. But I realized I quickly got used to it, wanting to finish work early just like my coworkers," she disclosed. She contrasted this with her previous job, where schedules varied dramatically and weekends did not always exist.
Now at 43, reflecting on her entire life experience, Katase understands the importance of daily monotony. "It's surprising how much I've learned to cherish ordinary moments. Rather than crave excitement, I'm discovering joy in the calm, everyday aspects of life. This feels like the happiest time of my life," she expressed with genuine delight.
When asked about her desire to start a family, Katase was candid. "I’m not against the idea of having one someday, but I’m also completely at peace with my life as it is. Right now, I’m focused on this moment and what brings me joy. Future plans aren’t something I stress about at the moment. My life is fulfilling as is," she clarified.
With her new company duties firmly on her plate, Katase does not deny the fears she had about joining the corporate world, yet she also feels immensely grateful for the opportunity at this stage of her life. "It’s rewarding to work for such a big company at my age. I'm not worried about fitting in; it’s the learning and growing experience I cherish most," she noted.
Three years since her transition, she finds herself appreciating the routine and companionship of her colleagues. "It’s refreshing to have co-workers who share the same goals. Being part of this team has helped me not to feel lonely," she articulated.
Katase's evolution from starlet to office worker may seem unexpected, but she enjoys her new path. What remains clear is her pursuit of balance, wanting to marry her artistry instincts with her newfound corporate responsibilities. "I want to create something meaningful, something innovative, all the mientras keeping my team’s needs at the forefront. Achieving this balance is my dream now," she stated.
At the end of the day, her happiness is palpable. Katase reflects on her past with pride but looks to the future filled with optimism and passion. "I'm truly happy now; it feels natural, and that's what matters most to me. This chapter is all about being true to myself and enjoying my time," she concluded.
