Nearly 17 years after captivating audiences with Taare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan is set to return to the big screen with a spiritual successor titled Sitaare Zameen Par. The film promises an uplifting, humorous, and emotionally resonant journey, and its first official poster was unveiled on May 5, 2025, by Aamir Khan Productions. The trailer launch was initially scheduled for last week but was postponed due to a recent terror attack in Pahalgam. In light of this, the team decided to maintain promotional momentum by revealing the poster.
The newly released poster evokes a sense of nostalgia, drawing visual parallels with Taare Zameen Par through its bright, hand-drawn aesthetic. It features colorful doodles, including a football, a DNA strand, and a basketball hoop, radiating youthful energy and hinting at the vibrant, dynamic world the film explores. At the center of the poster is Aamir Khan, surrounded by a lively and diverse group of characters, ranging from quirky classmates to affectionate family members and mentors, suggesting a rich narrative focused on relationships and discovery.
Sitaare Zameen Par follows the emotional journey of a man who reconnects with life through his bond with children who perceive the world differently. In helping them embrace their uniqueness, he confronts his own vulnerabilities, leading to a powerful narrative of growth, healing, and second chances. Directed by R.S. Prasanna and produced under the Aamir Khan Productions banner, the film is written by Divy Nidhi Sharma. Aamir Khan leads the cast alongside Taare Zameen Par’s Darsheel Safary and Genelia Deshmukh in pivotal roles. This marks Aamir’s return to the big screen after two years, with a role that blends emotional depth with light-hearted charm.
Fans expressed their excitement on social media following the poster launch. The film is set to hit theaters on June 20, 2025, having been rescheduled from its original Christmas release date. Along with Aamir Khan and Darsheel Safary, the film will introduce ten new actors: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar, marking their acting debut.
Aamir Khan's last film was Laal Singh Chaddha, released in 2022, which was an official Hindi remake of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump. Despite high expectations and a star-studded cast including Kareena Kapoor and Naga Chaitanya, the movie underperformed at the Indian box office. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Aamir described Sitaare Zameen Par as "a beautiful story" and noted the differences in tone from its predecessor. He stated, "Actually, the easiest way I can describe it is that Taare Zameen Par is a very emotional film which makes you cry. Sitaare Zameen Par makes you laugh; it’s a humorous film. The theme is similar, of people with different abilities, different intelligence, or with different challenges. But, it’s humour as opposed to emotions."
Aamir further elaborated on the character dynamics, saying, "In many ways, I feel it’s way ahead of Taare Zameen Par, because in Taare Zameen Par, the person who was with the challenge in the film, Ishaan, was helped by my character. In Sitaare Zameen Par, it’s the ten people with challenges, they help me, the supposedly normal person. So I feel it goes much further. I hope it turns out well."
The film's trailer was recently shown to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which granted it a 'UA' certificate. Actor, writer, and model Kuldeep Gadhvi reviewed the trailer on Instagram after it was screened, praising Aamir's performance. He noted, "Watched CBFC (#SitareZameenPar) trailer, it is an amazing trailer, Aamir Khan's character name Gulshan is a stark contrast of Nikumbh. You will see more comedy than emotions in the trailer, but Aamir Khan has done a fab job. Genelia Deshmukh is doing a strong job, Darsheel Safary also looks good."
