A34 Road Closures Bring Major Delays To Commuters

Motorists face significant disruptions as closures for roadworks extend through rush hour near Oxford

A34 remains closed during rush hour as delays build

Motorists should brace themselves for significant disruptions as the A34 northbound from A423 near Hinksey Hill to A44 near Oxford is closed, with roadworks overrun due to tarmac issues. National Highways has indicated the closure is expected to last until at least 8am.

This isn't the only disruption on the roads, as another key stretch of the A34 is set to be shut again this evening, causing more headaches for drivers. From 9pm, the roads will be closed to facilitate resurfacing works as National Highways aims to maintain the structure of these heavily trafficked routes.

The current closure has had ripple effects throughout the area and is especially troublesome for anyone trying to navigate through as it coincides with busy travel times. Local commuters are being advised to plan their routes accordingly and anticipate delays during rush hour.

A spokesman for National Highways has stated: "The A34 remains closed northbound between the A423 near Hinksey Hill and the Peartree Roundabout due to planned overnight roadworks. These works have overrun their pre-agreed end time due to issues with the tarmac.” This announcement has been met with frustration from drivers who experienced delays during the previous night's closure.

Adding to the congestion, the Milton Interchange near Didcot will also see closures tonight, with entries and exits blocked from 9pm until 6am for maintenance work, contributing to the chaos.

This evening's roadworks follow earlier disruptions, including another closure on the Hinksey Hill to Peartree route just days before, which affected the traffic flow for those heading to the Kassam Stadium, where Oxford United triumphed over Hull City 1-0.

National Highways has recognized how important it is for motorists to know what they are facing on the roads. Therefore, they continue to communicate expected impacts of the roadworks as things evolve, urging drivers to stay updated and patient—something many drivers might find hard to do during busy travel periods.

The combination of these road closures paints a picture of inconvenience for everyday travelers and highlights the necessity of timely communication from transport authorities. With the constant ebb and flow of work on the A34, it makes sense for residents and commuters alike to keep abreast of updates through official channels.

Frustrations are bound to arise as people navigate their daily routines around these closures. Those relying on the A34 should prepare for longer journeys and increased travel times, particularly during peak hours.

Drivers are encouraged to send their experiences or concerns to local news outlets, ensuring community feedback is relayed to the relevant authorities. By sharing stories, motorists can contribute valuable information as users of these highways.
