7 Eleven Celebrates Free Slurpee Day With Tongue Tattoos

On July 11, 7 Eleven and partners offer free Slurpees, new tongue tattoos, and special discounts to mark the brand’s 98th birthday

Every year, July 11 marks a special occasion for fans of frozen treats and convenience store culture: 7-Eleven Day, popularly known as Slurpee Day. In 2025, the celebration not only continues but comes with fresh twists to keep customers excited and engaged. On Friday, July 11, 7-Eleven, along with Speedway and Stripes convenience stores, will be handing out free small Slurpees nationwide, marking the 23rd annual Slurpee Day and the 98th birthday of the iconic brand founded in 1927.

The tradition of giving away free Slurpees on July 11 has been a staple since 2002, delighting customers and keeping the brand’s frozen beverage a summer staple. This year, however, 7-Eleven is turning up the fun with the introduction of “Tongue-toos,” a first-of-its-kind temporary tongue tattoo activated by drinking a Slurpee. This quirky new feature is inspired by the colorful residue Slurpee drinks leave on the tongue, and the tattoos come shaped like the classic Slurpee “S” in vibrant hues of blue, green, red, or purple.

Here’s how it works: customers grab their free Slurpee, sip it down, then place the Tongue-too on their tongue and wait about 20 seconds for the tattoo to reveal itself. It’s a playful nod to Slurpee culture that adds an interactive element to the annual giveaway. These tattoos will be available to members of 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards programs at select 7-Eleven and Speedway locations on Slurpee Day.

Getting your free Slurpee is straightforward. Walk into any participating 7-Eleven, Speedway, or Stripes store, fill up a small Slurpee cup, and bring it to the counter—no coupon or app needed for the first free drink. The offer is limited to one free small Slurpee per customer on July 11, while supplies last. But the fun doesn’t stop there for rewards members. By scanning their rewards information on Slurpee Day, 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members can snag a coupon for an additional free small Slurpee, redeemable through July 31, 2025. Members can also enter to win prizes including free drinks, snacks, and more through the apps.

Adding to the excitement, 7-Eleven is bringing back a fan-favorite limited-time flavor: the Mountain Dew Infinite Swirl. Described as a blue pineapple-berry blend, this refreshing twist is available not only in Slurpee form but also in Big Gulp cups and 20-ounce bottles. Alongside classic Slurpee flavors like Blue Raspberry—dubbed the “sweet OG”—and the timeless Cherry, customers have a tasty trio to choose from this year.

To celebrate the brand’s 98th birthday, 7-Eleven is also offering a limited-edition Slurpee cup, perfect for collectors and fans eager to mark the occasion. Beyond the in-store festivities, the company is sweetening the deal with a special promotion on its 7NOW Delivery app: on July 11 only, customers can save $7.11 on purchases of $20 or more by using the promo code 711DAY. This clever nod to the date makes the day even more appealing to those who prefer to enjoy their Slurpees from home.

For those who enjoy a little extra thrill, 7-Eleven and Speedway apps are hosting an in-app game where customers can win $5,000 daily throughout the day. This interactive element adds a modern twist to the longstanding tradition, blending digital engagement with the physical joy of a frozen treat.

The history behind 7-Eleven and its Slurpee is as rich as its flavors. The first 7-Eleven store opened in Dallas in 1927, pioneering convenience retailing. The Slurpee itself was introduced in 1965, quickly becoming a beloved summer staple with its icy texture and sweet, vibrant flavors. Over the decades, the brand has expanded across the U.S. and beyond, with Speedway and Stripes joining in the Slurpee Day celebrations to reach more customers nationwide.

Marissa Jarratt, 7-Eleven’s executive vice president and chief marketing and sustainability officer, summed up this year’s event by saying, “This Slurpee Day, we’re mixing things up with new flavors, our celebratory swag and even a twist designed to mark tastebuds in the coolest way possible.” Indeed, the introduction of Tongue-toos and the return of Mountain Dew Infinite Swirl are clear signs that 7-Eleven is committed to keeping the event fresh and exciting.

Whether you’re a longtime Slurpee fanatic or a curious newcomer, July 11, 2025, offers a perfect opportunity to enjoy a free frozen treat, join in on the fun with a temporary tongue tattoo, and celebrate nearly a century of convenience store culture. So, mark your calendar, grab your cup, and get ready to sip, stick, and smile this Friday at your local 7-Eleven, Speedway, or Stripes store.
