3 Doors Down Lead Singer Brad Arnold Battles Cancer

The musician reveals stage 4 kidney cancer diagnosis and cancels summer tour dates

On May 7, 2025, Brad Arnold, the lead singer of the rock band 3 DOORS DOWN, shared heartbreaking news with fans through a heartfelt video message: he has been diagnosed with stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), a severe form of kidney cancer that has metastasized into his lungs. The announcement has led to the cancellation of all the band's upcoming tour dates, including their much-anticipated performances this summer.

In the video, Arnold opened up about his recent health struggles, stating, "Hey, everybody, it's Brad from 3 DOORS DOWN. I hope you're having a great day today. I've got some not-so-good news for you today. So I'd been sick a couple of weeks ago and then went to the hospital and got checked out and had actually got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal [cell] carcinoma that had metastasized into my lung. And it's stage four, and that's not real good." Despite the gravity of his diagnosis, Arnold expressed a sense of hope and faith, saying, "But you know what? We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all." He then requested prayers from fans, asking them to lift him up as he faces this battle.

As a result of his diagnosis, 3 DOORS DOWN has officially canceled its entire summer tour, which included headlining shows, festival appearances, and support dates with CREED, along with a performance at Morgan Wallen's Sand In My Boots festival. The band expressed their regrets over the cancellation, stating in a message to fans, "Thank you for all the memories so far. Now, I believe 'IT’S NOT MY TIME' is really my song. This’ll be a battle, so we need our prayer warriors! Thank y’all for being the best fans in the world. We love y’all!" Arnold also referenced the band's 2008 song "It's Not My Time," suggesting that it has taken on new meaning for him during this challenging time.

Brad Arnold, now 46, co-founded 3 DOORS DOWN in 1996 when he was just a teenager. The band quickly rose to fame with their breakout single "Kryptonite," which became a staple of early 2000s rock radio. Since then, they have sold over 30 million albums globally and earned numerous accolades, including three Grammy nominations and two American Music Awards. Their debut album, "The Better Life," released in 2000, was certified seven-times platinum in the United States, propelled by the success of hits like "Kryptonite" and "When I'm Gone." The band's sophomore album, "Away From The Sun," went triple platinum, while their subsequent albums also achieved significant commercial success.

Arnold has been open about his struggles with addiction in the past, celebrating his ninth anniversary of sobriety in January 2025. He has credited his Christian faith with helping him overcome these challenges, stating, "Without question, God took that burden from me. I was so tired of carrying it. I couldn't carry it anymore, so I gave it to God and I'm not taking it back! If you're struggling with something, give it to Him. He'll gladly take your burden and you'll never have to carry it again." His journey to sobriety has been a source of inspiration for many fans, and he continues to encourage others to find strength in faith.

In a 2021 interview, Arnold revealed that he quit smoking cigarettes around early 2018 after being a smoker for more than 25 years. He noted that giving up smoking and alcohol were two of the best decisions he made for his health and vocal performance. "They were the best things that I've ever done for my life, in general, but they were acutely present in my voice," he explained.

Following the announcement of Arnold's diagnosis, an outpouring of support flooded in from fans and fellow artists alike. Notable figures such as Scott Stapp of CREED and Chris Daughtry shared messages of encouragement and prayers for Arnold. Daughtry commented, "Sending you love my brother," while Stapp added, "If anyone has the FAITH and STRENGTH to face this fight, it’s YOU brother. You and your family are in my prayers daily. We can do ALL things through CHRIST. I think I can speak for all of us, we are lifting you up in prayer right now, believing without doubt for your total healing! I love you bro…"

3 DOORS DOWN's official website has been wiped clean of upcoming tour dates, and the band has expressed their heartfelt apologies to fans who were looking forward to the summer shows. The cancellation includes a notable appearance at the Alaska State Fair, which was scheduled for August 29, 2025. The fair organizers have announced that all ticket holders will receive a full refund, which may take up to two weeks to process.

As Arnold battles this illness, he remains optimistic and is leaning on his faith for strength. He has shared his journey with fans, emphasizing the importance of community and support during difficult times. His story serves as a reminder of the power of resilience and the strength found in faith, even in the face of daunting challenges.

3 DOORS DOWN continues to hold a special place in the hearts of rock fans around the world, and as they navigate this difficult period, fans are rallying around Arnold and the band, sending prayers and positive thoughts as they embark on this new chapter.
