2025 Vuelta Ciclista A Andalucía Celebrates 100th Year

A thrilling race where Alexander Kristoff claims the third stage victory amid community engagement and excitement.

The Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucía has kicked off its 2025 edition, marking the 100th anniversary of this iconic cycling race, which has become integral to the sporting culture of southern Spain.

On February 21, 2025, the third stage of the race concluded with Alexander Kristoff of Uno-X Mobility sprinting to victory at Pozoblanco. Kristoff managed to sneak past Ben Turner of Ineos Grenadiers at the finish line, showcasing his impressive skills even at the age of 37. The experienced rider's win adds to his career tally, marking his 97th professional victory. Following closely were Maxim van Gils, who secured third place, and Tom Pidcock claiming the fourth position.

This stage, characterized by its medium mountainous profile, was not short of excitement. With only one mountain pass on the route from Arjona to Pozoblanco, the final kilometers saw intense competition as riders battled for precious time bonuses during the competitive segments, known as the “Kilometer of Gold.” This feature was introduced this year and seems to be garnering interest among both competitors and spectators.

TV coverage of the race has been extensive this year, with Eurosport broadcasting live. Viewers could follow the third stage on February 21 from the start to the thrilling finale, with coverage available without interruptions through its streaming platform Max.

The race’s next challenge occurs on February 22, with the fourth stage stretching from Córdoba to Alhaurín de la Torre, totaling 194.3 kilometers. This is anticipated to be one of the fastest stages, as the route is predominantly flat, favoring the sprinters after several tough days on more demanding terrain.

Another exciting feature of the fourth stage will be the return of the Kilómetro de Oro, where riders can earn significant bonuses. The day's events will also incorporate local fan engagement, as community residents are encouraged to cheer for the cyclists as they pass through various towns.

The final stage is set for February 23, where the cyclists will depart from Benahavís and aim to cross the finish line at La Línea de la Concepción. This concluding leg will see eleven mountain passes, including the challenging first-category Madroño climb, making it pivotal for those aiming for overall race victory.

Local authorities have also issued warnings concerning traffic and parking restrictions throughout the race's duration, ensuring safety and smooth travel for both residents and visitors. Starting from February 21 at 9:00 AM, parking bans are enforced across various streets, highlighting the race's community-centric approach to sporting events.

With today’s dynamic and adaptable format, the 2025 Vuelta Andalucía is not only focusing on sport but also enhancing community involvement, amplifying the region’s visibility on the international sports stage.

Cyclists like Nairo Quintana, competing for Movistar, are also expected to leave their mark, bringing global recognition to the event. Spectators, both local and international, eagerly anticipate witnessing this classic event and the exciting performances it promises to deliver.
