2025 Travel Trends Highlight Family Vacations And Tech Use

Increasing focus on family-oriented travel experiences and technological advancements shape the tourism sector's future.

On the very first workday of 2025, January 2, Agoda, the online travel platform, released its latest survey highlighting travel trends for the coming year. The results indicate Asian travelers are increasingly prioritizing leisure trips, family experiences, and the exploration of new destinations, propelling the growth of the regional tourism industry.

The Agoda survey shows Vietnamese travelers are placing greater emphasis on family time, seeking relaxation after busy lives. Notably, leisure travel emerges as the top priority, with 65% of Vietnamese respondents indicating they want to escape the daily grind. This trend reflects a broader demand for family vacations, underscoring the need for togetherness among family members.

“The travel trends for 2025 excite us, particularly leisure vacations with family and explorations of new destinations,” said Ittai Chorev, Agoda’s product director. The findings suggest Vietnamese travelers wish to bond with family during trips, with 39% planning to travel with relatives this year. Other popular travel formats include solo trips (20%) and couple escapes (17%). Though the desire for family travel is high, it still lags behind Indonesia, where 58% of respondents expressed interest in multi-generational trips.

Relaxation continues to stand as the primary driver for Vietnamese travel, greatly overshadowing opportunities for cultural exploration (49%) and visiting friends or family (39%). Significantly, Singapore ranks highest among respondents, with 87% stating rest is their main reason for traveling.

Technology plays a pivotal role as well, making trip planning easier. The survey reveals 78% of Vietnamese travelers plan to utilize travel apps to organize their excursions. This trend extends across the region, with Indian (89%) and Philippine (82%) travelers exhibiting the highest reliance on technology for arranging their travel.

Notably, the blend of work and travel is also on the rise. With many companies adapting flexible work policies, 4% of Vietnamese respondents expressed the desire to combine remote working with their travels. Conversely, the Philippines show the highest interest, with 1 out of 14 respondents wishing to mix work and travel.

Sources of travel inspiration vary widely, with personal interests and budgets cited by 84% and 55% of travelers respectively. An interestingly increasing factor is social media influence, with 17% of Vietnamese travelers deriving travel ideas from online platforms.

Theme parks have emerged as exciting destinations among travelers. Data shows 1 out of every 8 Vietnamese tourists (14%) plans to visit amusement parks this year. These spots offer thrilling experiences and unique atmospheres; respondents from Indonesia especially enjoy the excitement of theme parks, with 20% planning trips there.
