2025 SAG Awards Celebrates Stars Amid Laughter And Emotion

Demi Moore, Colin Farrell, and others leave lasting impressions at the ceremony highlighting camaraderie among actors.

The 2025 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards came to a glittering close, marking another year of celebration for the achievements of actors within the film and television industry. Whether it was the winners expressing joy or delivering heartfelt speeches, the ceremony delivered plenty of memorable moments, particularly when it came to the weight of the awards themselves.

Demi Moore, who took home the award for Female Actor in a Leading Role for her performance in The Substance, kicked off the comments around the trophies' heft. Approaching the statuette on stage, she noted with humor, "I'm gonna pick it up to see how heavy it is." Weighing it between her hands, she exclaimed, "Yep, OK," before placing it back on the table, highlighting the surprising intensity of the award's weight, which clocks in at around 12 pounds.

Kieran Culkin, known for his role on Succession, also acknowledged the trophy’s bulk. During his acceptance speech, he joked, "I don't think there's any way anyone can hold this for 45 seconds," as he expressed gratitude to SAG-AFTRA for the award. Indeed, the SAG awards, named The Actor, stand at 16 inches tall and are crafted from solid bronze, making them not just prestigious accolades but also hefty pieces of decor boasting substantial heft.

Overall, the big winners at the 2025 SAG Awards included Timothee Chalamet, who won Male Actor in a Leading Role for his role in A Complete Unknown, and Jean Smart for Female Actor in a Comedy Series for Hacks, alongside the ensemble award for Conclave.

Not all moments were filled with joy, as Jamie Lee Curtis also made headlines during the ceremony with her introduction of Colin Farrell, who was awarded Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series. Curtis humorously called him out, saying, "And the Actor goes to ... the man who gave me COVID at the Golden Globes, Colin Farrell." It was a lighthearted jab at the fact Farrell had unintentionally spread COVID during a previous event.

Farrell accepted the award with grace, responding, "Guilty as charged," and then delivered comedic commentary about the virus's unexpected travelogue through Hollywood. He shifted the blame toward his co-star, Brendan Gleeson, quipping, "He f--king gave it to me, so I was just spreading the love." This moment flourished the ceremony's atmosphere and compounded the personal stories behind the awards.

Alongside jokes, Farrell's acceptance speech also contained moments of sincerity. The actor took time to highlight the importance of his family, thanking his sons, James, 21, and Henry, 15. He beautifully remarked on the joy they add to his life, declaring, "Two people in my life who have made my life so much more special and so much more meaningful and so much more joyful than I ever truly thought possible."

Farrell grew increasingly emotional as he reflected on his career and peers, saying, "So many of you I grew up watching on television and film. So many I've worked with over the years and shared the spirit of collaborative curiosity... It's just unquantifiable; it's playtime. You don't get to fully grow up, you get to keep the dream of a child alive as you try and figure out what it is to be human." His heartfelt conclusion, "It's so much fun and – time is running out fast," struck a chord with many attending the ceremony.

The SAG Awards stand not just as trophies but as symbols of respect, recognition, and the powerful connections formed within the acting community. They offer a space for players from all corners of the industry to come together, celebrate achievements and expound on their shared experiences. With the laughter, emotions, and accolades, the 2025 ceremony encapsulated the vibrance of the arts and the role of storytelling, not just through the characters depicted on screen, but through the lives of those portraying them.
