The Brazilian government has announced the 2025 payment schedule for the PIS/PASEP abono salarial, set to begin on February 17, 2025. According to the Conselho Deliberativo do Fundo de Amparo ao Trabalhador (Codefat), this payment will be made referring to the year-base 2023, when the minimum salary was R$ 1,320, with the total estimated payout reaching between R$ 30.7 billion and benefiting around 25.8 million workers.
Eligibility for this round of payments will see some changes. Although currently those earning up to two minimum salaries (approximately R$ 2,824) qualify, the limit for 2025 will be lowered to R$ 2,640. This adjustment aligns with the government's plans for gradual changes to redefine the eligibility criteria permanently by 2035. The Government maintains the requirement for workers to have been employed formally for at least 30 days during the base year 2023, and they must be registered with the program for at least five years.
The payment distribution follows the birth month of the beneficiaries, with the full calendar laid out as follows:
- Workers born in January: February 17
- Workers born in February: March 17
- Workers born in March and April: April 15
- Workers born in May and June: May 15
- Workers born in July and August: June 16
- Workers born in September and October: July 15
- Workers born in November and December: August 15
To determine their eligibility for the benefit, workers will be able to use the Digital Work Card from February 5, 2025. Alternatives to check eligibility include accessing the portal Gov.br, calling the Alô Trabalho helpline at 158, or visiting their local Superintendências Regionais do Trabalho. For those who have accounts with Caixa Econômica Federal, the payments will be credited directly, with Banco do Brasil customers also receiving the benefit through various methods, including PIX and TED.
The payout will cover those who meet the updated income criteria, and the total amount is expected to address pending payments from previous years as well as those for 2025. Workers should remain vigilant, as those who have not claimed their PIS/PASEP 2024 abono salarial also have until December 27, 2024, to withdraw their amounts.
It is also imperative for workers to note the importance of having their employer correctly report their information through the Relação Anual de Informações Sociais (RAIS) or eSocial systems, with deadlines set for May 15, 2024, and August 19, 2024, respectively. Failure to provide correct data may lead to delays or disqualification from receiving the benefit.
The changes reflecting on this abono salarial for 2025 mark significant developments aimed at ensuring more workers benefit from this support mechanism. The adjustment of income limits, combined with the regularization of outstanding payments, indicates the government's approach to facilitating economic recovery and providing much-needed assistance during these uncertain times.
Overall, with the streamlined process and clear guidelines, the PIS/PASEP 2025 abono salarial is set to distribute funds effectively, offering relief to millions of Brazilian workers who have encountered hardships, as they wait for the expected payments from February onward.
