2025 Hobart International Draw Revealed Ahead Of Tournament

Top seeds including Dayana Yastremska and Elise Mertens are set to compete as the tournament kicks off.

The 2025 Hobart International is gearing up for its 30th edition, bringing together top women’s tennis stars at the Hobart International Tennis Centre from January 6 to January 11. This WTA 250 event serves as an ideal lead-up tournament to the season's first Grand Slam, the Australian Open.

Among the competitors, Dayana Yastremska and Elise Mertens have emerged as the top two seeds. Yastremska, currently ranked No. 33, will kick off her campaign against American Katie Volynets, ranked No. 58, in the first round. Should she progress, the second round could see her clashing with former US Open champion Sloane Stephens, who received a wildcard for this tournament.

Mertens, the No. 34 seed, will begin her tournament run facing off against a qualifier, with potential challenges later on against Clara Tauson (ranked No. 50) or Anhelina Kalinina (No. 55), both formidable opponents who demonstrated competitive performances heading to Hobart.

One of the event's highlights will be the matchup between 5th seed Lulu Sun, ranked No. 40, against former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, currently ranked No. 81. This first-round clash promises to be exciting as Sun, who has had substantial success over the past year, takes on the pressure of competing against established player Kenin.

Interestingly, Amanda Anisimova, seeded third and ranked No. 36, faces local challenger Daria Saville (No. 108) upon her entry. Similarly, rising Slovak player Rebecca Sramkova, who has led her country to the final of the Billie Jean King Cup, will face McCartney Kessler (No. 67) as she aims to make her mark.

This year's tournament will feature nine players ranked within the top 50, including Elina Avanesyan (No. 43) and Magda Linette (No. 38). With such talent present, competitors will aim to secure valuable ranking points and gain momentum leading up to the Australian Open.

While last year's champion, Emma Navarro, will not be defending her title, this absence may open doors for other rising stars. The tournament promises to deliver unexpected upsets and thrilling matches.

The prize pool for the singles competition includes $36,300 for the winner and significant sums for reaching the later stages. The tournament not only offers financial incentives but also the chance for players to establish their presence on the tour early this season.

Fans can expect intense matchups and thrilling tennis, particularly among the first-round draws, which will be key to setting the stage for potential breakout performances. The spirit of competition will be high as players fight for victory and points at this esteemed event.

Overall, the 2025 Hobart International will not only provide insights and opportunities for elite tennis players but also serve as entertainment for fans eager to witness high-stakes matches. With established champs and promising newcomers, this tournament heralds an exciting beginning to the 2025 tennis season.
