2025 Four Nations Face-Off Team Captains Announced

Crosby, Matthews, Barkov, and Hedman lead their nations as hockey's best return to international play.

The inaugural Four Nations Face-Off is gearing up to begin on February 12, 2025, and the excitement is palpable as each participating country has unveiled its leadership teams. The tournament, which runs through February 20, will take place across two iconic hockey cities, Montreal and Boston.

The Four Nations brings together elite talent from the United States, Canada, Finland, and Sweden for what promises to be the closest thing to best-on-best men’s hockey since the 2016 World Cup. Bet on the tournament has seen the United States labeled as the favorites at +150 odds, closely followed by Canada at +160, with Sweden and Finland offering enticing odds at +410 and +850 respectively.

For American fans, the announcement of Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews as the captain of Team USA could not be more thrilling. Alongside Matthews, Florida Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk and Boston Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy have been named alternate captains. This trio has previously experienced international success, helping the U.S. clinch gold at the IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship and bronze at the IIHF World Junior Championship.

On the Canadian side, the legendary Sidney Crosby returns to lead his nation. With three Stanley Cup championships and two Olympic gold medals under his belt, Crosby’s experience is invaluable. Assisting him will be none other than Connor McDavid, the Edmonton Oilers' captain, and Colorado Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar, strengthening Canada’s push for gold.

Over in Finland, the pride of the Florida Panthers, Aleksander Barkov, has been selected to captain Team Finland. Barkov expresses enthusiasm about the honor, stating, "Of course, it's a huge honor. I never really dreamed about this, but it's something special, and I can't wait to get going."
