2025 Consumer Trends Unveiled Across Industries

Travel, technology, retail, and sustainability are redefining market dynamics worldwide.

British Airways Holidays has released its much-anticipated 2025 Travel Trends Report, showcasing how social media is influencing culinary tourism and emphasizing the desire for literary escapism among travelers. This year's report, cut from recent independent research, customer surveys, and booking data, sheds light on how UK holidaymakers are shaping their travel experiences.

Andrew Flintham, managing director of British Airways Holidays, noted, "Our third annual report provides some impressive insight on how UK consumers are looking to travel. Not only are they searching for new ways to optimise their time away but there is also a clear trend toward embracing traditional holiday elements like all-inclusive offers." This year, 41% of adults opting for vacations have been directly inspired by social media to try specific restaurants or cuisines abroad, proving the power of platforms like Instagram and TikTok on today’s travel choices.

Another trend identified is the “Paperback-Packers,” which brings attention to the rejuvenated interest in reading during travels. According to the report, 90% of UK adults are reading more on vacation, with 56% purchasing books at airports. "Travel in 2025 will be defined by a bold mix of nostalgia, curiosity, and self-discovery," commented Jenny Southan, editor and founder of Globetrender.

Meanwhile, the technology sector sees major shifts on the horizon. Advances like generative artificial intelligence and hybrid cloud platforms are set to dominate the market. Companies can leverage these innovations to improve customer experience and operational efficiency. These trends promise to transform how businesses operate, poised to be driven by the growing importance of automation and integrated cybersecurity measures.

Turning to the retail aspect, Reef has also made significant strides, achieving three consecutive years of mid-double-digit growth according to CEO Gregg Ribatt and President Mike Jensen. The brand has diversified its offerings, moving beyond traditional flip-flops to introduce lightweight, comfortable shoes, responding to consumer demand. "We think it's going to be huge for us," remarked Jensen, drawing attention to the anticipated success of their new products, including the Fanning shoe with its unique integrated bottle opener.

Shifting gears, Indonesia's poultry farming industry is undergoing major changes driven by consumer demand for more humane practices. The transition from caged systems to aviary systems reflects broader concerns about animal welfare. Research indicates growing consumer awareness is influencing egg production, prompting companies to adopt cage-free standards. Notably, Indonesian enterprise Inti Prima Satwa Sejahtera (IPSS) is leading the way, focusing on products such as 'Healthy Eggs' and offering training centers for local farmers to transition effectively.

Finally, Mercado Livre has released its MELI Trends Brasil report, analyzing Brazilian purchasing habits for 2024. The report indicates growing interest in home decor and fitness products, echoing longstanding cultural influences on buying patterns. "The way Brazilians search and buy is always changing, and at Mercado Livre, we're committed to providing the best experience for our consumers,” stated Roberta Donato, the company’s senior marketplace director.

The 2025 Market and Consumer Trends are shaping up to be influenced by new technology, shifting consumer awareness toward sustainability, and cultural preferences. These trends showcase not only the complexity of consumer choices spanning various industries but also the innovative strategies brands must adopt to stay relevant.
