15-Year-Old Killed In Shooting On SEPTA Bus

The tragedy raises urgent safety concerns among West Philadelphia commuters.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 15-year-old boy is dead after a tragic shooting on a SEPTA bus in West Philadelphia, which occurred just after 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025. The incident happened at 40th and Girard, where witnesses reported a physical altercation involving a group of five to six juveniles at the rear of the bus.

According to police, the bus driver intervened by stopping the bus when the fight escalated. After the driver halted the vehicle, one of the juveniles exited through the rear door and inexplicably turned back, firing a single shot into the bus that struck the 15-year-old in the chest.

Emergency responders quickly arrived and transported the critically injured teen to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 1:20 p.m.

No arrests have been made in connection to this incident, which is under active investigation by local homicide detectives. In light of the senseless violence that occurred, a $20,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
