Vietnam has officially welcomed two new Deputy Prime Ministers, Nguyễn Chí Dũng and Mai Văn Chính, following their appointments on February 18, 2025. This significant change was formalized through decisions signed by the President of Vietnam.
Nguyễn Chí Dũng, who is also a member of the Central Executive Committee and the Standing Committee of the Government Party, takes on the role for the period of 2021-2026. His appointment, under Decision No. 215/QĐ-CTN, aligns him with various important responsibilities within the Vietnamese government.
Similarly, Mai Văn Chính has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister under Decision No. 214/QĐ-CTN on the same date. Like Dũng, he also holds positions within the Central Executive Committee and the Government’s Party Standing Committee, marking them both as instrumental figures within the government’s hierarchy.
The decision to appoint these deputies is pivotal as it reshapes Vietnam's leadership structure during this legislative term. Both Dũng and Chính are expected to play key roles as the country navigates various political and economic challenges.
Following their appointments, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has delineated their specific areas of focus. For Nguyễn Chí Dũng, these include oversight of the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.
Dũng will spearhead significant sectors such as scientific advancement, digital transformation, and the development of various types of enterprises, including cooperatives and collective economies. He will also be responsible for direct foreign investments (FDI) and managing the nuances of outbound investments from Vietnam.
Aside from economic matters, Dũng will handle substantial topics related to semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI), among others. His leadership is also set to include the national planning and various regional and province-specific developments.
Notably, Dũng will act as the Chair of the National Planning Council and lead several committees, aiming to innovate and evolve the economic collective systems across the nation. He has also been assigned the responsibility to monitor and direct investments and to oversee the completion of several projects which fall under his jurisdiction.
On the other hand, Mai Văn Chính will also have his share of responsibilities, contributing to the government’s effectiveness and productivity. The government’s vision includes fostering cooperation on multiple fronts with projects and initiatives likely awaiting Chính's attention, particularly as he navigates complex social dynamics.
These changes come at a time when Vietnam is thriving toward modernization and global integration. Both Dũng and Chính’s appointments are positioned to influence the country's future significantly, particularly amid efforts to bolster economic performance and engender sustainable growth.
Both leaders are expected to bring their extensive experience and political acumen to the fore, which is integral for steering Vietnam through the next chapters of its national development. Through innovation, investment, and strategic planning, they are being counted upon to uphold and advance Vietnam's aspirations on the global stage.
