Sverdlovsk Technopark Kvantorium Project Approved

Local children prepare for hands-on engineering experiences as technopark plans progress.

The recently acknowledged Kvantorium children's technopark project is stirring excitement as it promises to be more than just another educational establishment within Russia's Sverdlovsk region. Located in Bogdanovich, the tech park received the green light from state construction experts, a significant milestone for the ambitious initiative.

The Kvantorium aims to immerse local schoolchildren in the engineering world, where they'll learn the entire creation process of engineering products—from formulating technical specifications to designing and executing their concepts. Besides engineering skills, the facility boasts plans for chess sessions, co-working spaces, and dedicated classrooms for English and mathematics.

Financial support has poured in for the establishment, with 25 million rubles sourced from the regional budget and 115 million rubles allocated when combining all funding levels. The construction responsibilities are headed by ООО “Transmostengineering”, tasked with transforming the vision of the Kvantorium from paperwork to reality.

Initially, the technopark was set to welcome up to 400 children; yet, by autumn 2024, news emerged indicating the project hadn’t passed regional state expert review. This forced necessary adjustments to the design, reducing capacity drastically to just 112 students. Along with the downsizing, earlier proposals were replaced with plans for additional educational laboratories endorsed by Russian Railways (RZhD).

Despite the hiccups, social media channels suggest the Kvantorium was eventually inaugurated this September. Interestingly, it opened at the Creative Additional Education Center, deviated from its originally intended standalone location. The public is now anticipating the onset of active construction work on its dedicated building.

Stakeholders and community members remain optimistic. The technopark is not merely about enhancing academic outcomes; it embodies the spirit of innovation and technological advancement intended for future generations. Local educators highlight the importance of offering hands-on experiences for youth to prepare them for participation in the modern workforce.
