Summer Sonic 2025 Unveils Second Wave Of Artists

The festival returns to Tokyo and Osaka with stars like The Prodigy and Camila Cabello

Summer Sonic 2025, one of the largest music festivals in Japan, has unveiled its second wave of artists for the event scheduled on August 16 and 17. This year, the festival will take place at two iconic locations: ZOZO Marine Stadium and Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, along with Banpaku Memorial Park in Osaka.

The lineup now includes renowned names such as The Prodigy, who are making their return after overcoming the loss of frontman Keith Flint. Joining them are pop sensation Camila Cabello, the rapidly rising K-pop girl group aespa, and versatile trilingual rapper/singer Chanmina, among others. Each of these acts brings unique styles and performances, ensuring diverse musical offerings for attendees.

The Prodigy, known for their groundbreaking dance-rock sound, is particularly exciting for fans. They have not performed at Summer Sonic since participating back in 2008 and 2015. The announcement sparked considerable excitement on social media, with many fans expressing their enthusiasm for the band’s return—even as they acknowledge Keith’s absence. "The thrill of seeing The Prodigy again is palpable!" wrote one fan, commenting on the wave of nostalgia and anticipation surrounding the band’s performance.

Other artists on the newly announced roster include Latiaro artist J Balvin, youth favorite Beabadoobee, and iconic Japanese metal band BABYMETAL, who have cemented their status as global rock contenders. Bloc Party, known for their 2000s UK rock influence, will also perform as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of their acclaimed album Silent Alarm.

Adding variety to the festival are acts like DOMi & JD BECK, who represent the new wave of jazz artistry, Canadian pop artist Elijah Woods, and the R&B quintet Infinity Song from New York, who are turning heads with their modern sound. British R&B star Jorja Smith and the recently formed girl group KATSEYE from multiple cities will also grace the stage, alongside new music icons like Lana and electronic producer Porter Robinson.

Naoki Shimizu, representative of Creative Man Inc., highlighted the festival’s triumphs since its revival post-COVID, noting, "Summer Sonic continues to sell out for three consecutive years since its revival after the COVID-19 pandemic." He also reassured fans about the festival's adaptability, promising improved amenities and comfort at the venues for this year.

Ticket sales will begin with pre-sales for Creative Man members on March 1, offering discounts and special perks. Official sales will kick off on March 12, with excitement already building among fans. Last year, the festival sold out at both Tokyo and Osaka sites, and expectations are high for this year's lineup as it continues to evolve.

Summing up the festival's intent, Shimizu stated, "This year's Summer Sonic will feature artists and audiences gathering for summer festivities." The festival promises to be more than just music; it aims to create vibrant experiences for its attendees, transforming the venues of Tokyo and Osaka during the summer days.

With each announcement, the anticipation for Summer Sonic 2025 grows ever stronger, as music lovers look forward to what this year’s festival holds. Mark your calendars, because the summer fun is just around the corner!
