Successful Stroke Treatment At Vung Tau Hospital Saves Patient

Timely medical intervention leads to complete recovery for local man after multiple strokes

Vung Tau Hospital has recently celebrated the successful treatment of Mr. D.V.B, who experienced significant health challenges after suffering from multiple strokes. This case not only demonstrates the hospital's commitment to effective medical care but also serves as a reminder of the importance of rapid response during stroke events.

On February 25, Mr. B. was having lunch at his home in Thang Nhi Ward, Vung Tau City, when he suddenly experienced facial drooping and trouble speaking, leading to dropped chopsticks and bowls. His family acted quickly, transferring him to the nearest private medical facility before he was referred to Vung Tau Hospital.

Upon arrival, Mr. B. was treated for paralysis on the left side of his body and loss of sensation on the same side, along with difficulty speaking. A CT scan confirmed the diagnosis of cerebral stroke. Thanks to the prompt administration of thrombolytic medication, Mr. B. showed remarkable improvement. Just 12 hours after treatment, he was able to walk normally and speak fluently, with full recovery from paralysis on his left side.

Dr. Tran Thi My Thanh from the Cardiovascular-Geriatric Department at Vung Tau Hospital noted the fortunate timing of Mr. B.’s arrival during the ‘golden hour’—the best timeframe for effective stroke treatment. "If he had arrived later, we might not have been able to use thrombolytic drugs, which must be administered within 4.5 hours of the onset of stroke symptoms," she explained.

Over the recent months, Vung Tau Hospital has successfully administered thrombolytic therapy for many stroke patients, achieving approximately 80% success in restoring normal function. This treatment works by dissolving blood clots obstructing blood vessels in the brain, underscoring the necessity of immediate medical intervention.

Dr. Thanh advises anyone who observes sudden signs of stroke—such as facial drooping, weakness on one side of the body, or unusual speech—to seek emergency medical help urgently. Early recognition of these symptoms can be life-saving.

The remarkable recovery of Mr. B. serves as both inspiration and caution. It highlights the advancements being made in stroke treatment and the importance of acting swiftly during emergencies. Vung Tau Hospital continues to encourage public awareness about the signs and risks of stroke, aiming to reduce response times and improve patient outcomes.
