Local authorities are fervently searching for a couple who went missing at sea off the coast of Ca Mau, Vietnam. The husband and wife, identified as N.V.X., 44, and T.T.N., 43, were reported missing after their fishing boat sank during their voyage. The two were last heard from on February 24, 2025, when their vessel was operating near the entrance to Industrial Port.
The couple, originally from Kien Giang province, had set sail at the end of January to engage in fishing activities. N.N.D., a cousin of the husband, reached out to him around 11 AM on the day they went missing and learned their boat was still fishing. Yet, by 2 PM, all communication had ceased, prompting N.D. to reach out for help.
“I contacted other fishing boats nearby for assistance as soon as I realized something might be wrong,” N.D. shared. He quickly alerted other vessels operating close by to initiate search efforts, but as night fell on February 24, visibility and conditions deteriorated, hindering rescue operations. The CM-06418-TS fishing boat was dispatched at around 7 PM to scour the waters, but the search yielded no immediate results.
By 9 AM the following day, local fishermen and N.D. continued the search and made the grim discovery of the couple’s boat submerged beneath the waves. Unfortunately, there was still no sign of N.V.X. and T.T.N. “The situation is dire,” one local fisherman said, as many came together to scan the vicinity where the boat went down.
Authorities believe turbulent weather could have played a significant role in the incident, as reports indicate rough seas and high winds were prevalent during the time. “Initial assessments suggest the boat may have capsized due to severe weather conditions,” stated officials from the maritime rescue team.
Continuing the search, the authorities, alongside local fishing communities, have spread the word to watch for any signs of the missing couple. “We are coordinating with local fishermen to assist in the search efforts,” said the local government of Phu Tan district. Various boats are patrolling the waters, hoping to spot survivors or recover the couple if possible.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by those who work at sea, particularly under unpredictable weather. The couple is beloved by their community, and their sudden disappearance has left many searching for answers. The community remains hopeful for news and is rallying to support the families involved.
Search operations will continue as long as necessary; local authorities are committed to exploring every avenue to locate N.V.X. and T.T.N. “The loss for the family is immense, and the community has stepped up to help,” one local resident remarked. Vigilant eyes remain on the waters of Ca Mau as the search continues, emphasizing the dangers and harsh conditions faced by those who traverse the sea.
