RTVE Celebrates Andalucía Day With Special Programming

Honor the 45th anniversary of Andalucía autonomy through celebrations, interviews, and cultural showcases on RTVE channels.

On February 28, RTVE is set to celebrate the Day of Andalucía with extensive special programming across all platforms, marking 45 years since the historic referendum on Andalusian autonomy.

The festivities begin with ‘La Hora de La 1’, which will be broadcasting live from the steps of the Andalusian Parliament. From 07:50 to 12:30, hosts Silvia Intxaurrondo, reporting from Sevilla, and Marc Sala, presenting from Madrid, will cover the local happenings and major political and cultural figures who visit the broadcast set.

Among the personalities featured will be interviews and insights from notable hosts, bringing the community’s current affairs to the audience. Viewers can expect coverage of poignant moments such as the ceremonial hoisting of the flag, the singing of the regional anthem, and statements from parliament members about Andalucía’s significance.

The program will transition to the Teatro Maestranza around noon for the gala presentation of the Medals of Andalucía and the recognition of individuals such as Jesús Navas and Pilar Manchón, both recipients of the prestigious title of Hijo Predilecto, along with artists like Pablo Alborán and Karina, honored with the Medals of Andalucía of the Arts.

RTVE Andalucía is fully committed to this celebration, with its local news team and reporters ready to cover events and highlight how Andalusia has influenced Spanish culture. A special news segment will air from 14:00 to 14:30, preceding another installment at 15:55 which will explore the region's historical evolution, its present challenges, and future prospects.

On Radio Nacional de España (RNE), Radio 5 will offer a national glimpse of the celebrations, broadcasting from 10:00 to 10:30, followed by regional updates until 11:00. The show ‘Crónica de Andalucía’, scheduled for 13:10 to 14:00, will also be dedicated to this special occasion.

RTVE Play is not to be left behind, as it unveils special programming centered around the Day of Andalucía. A highlight on Thursday includes ‘Play Zeta’, which will feature young Andalusian talents, including singer Violeta Hodar, comedian Lamine Thior, culture expert Sandra Morales, and fortune-teller Arabia Pozo, discussing the history, culture, and future of the autonomous community.

Beginning Wednesday, RTVE Play will stream content around the clock for five days, presenting films and special series showcasing influential Andalusian figures. Among the titles featured are ‘Antes de la quema’, ‘Adiós’, and ‘La maniobra de la tortuga’. Notably, series like ‘Malaka’ and documentary tributes to cultural icons such as Marisol and Paco de Lucía will also be available.

Music is another highlight, featuring performances from versatile groups like Los planetas and Supersubmarina. The programming will also include memorable moments from RTVE archives, including interviews from the late Jesús Quintero, who famously hosted ‘El loco de la colina’.

Throughout all coverage of the Day of Andalucía, themes of cultural pride, historical reflection, and the importance of community will be reinforced. RTVE’s dedication to the celebration allows for recognition of the region's unique contributions to Spain’s artistic and cultural heritage.

This event serves not only as a celebration of the past but also as a reaffirmation of Andalucía’s identity and its role within the broader Spanish mosaic, inviting both residents and viewers to share in the pride of their Andalusian roots.

RTVE’s comprehensive programming throughout the Day of Andalucía exemplifies the organization’s commitment to showcasing diverse voices, important historical reflections, and the rich culture of one of Spain’s most vibrant regions.
